help needed quick, CCTV video format
on: March 20, 2016, 12:46:11 PM
had a break in at work 4am Monday night (technically Tuesday I guess)

he didn't get much, and he looked right into one of the CCTV cameras so police have already arrested him and searched his house etc.. (found my stuff there)

gave the police a copy of the cctv footage on disk, but they've asked me to give them just the important bits (not the hour long files the cctv saves)

link here to footage
EDIT:took out link

cam2 is the important one, he breaks in about 3.40am  (on cam 2 about 3.43)
the infrared LEDs have burnt out in the other cameras (I didn't know) so they're pretty useless, but luckily he shon his torch on the till as he raided the float out of it

dvrplayer is the program that came with the CCTV system, player is a bit crap but it works

I need to save them as a different format and edit them down so they're shorter.... but nothing I do works, either other programs won't/can't read them at all or when the video comes out at the other end it's stretched

.H64 is apparently a sound-less version of .264 format for CCTV

CCTv is set to records in D1 which is 704x576/480  (I've got no idea what the 480 stand for)

constant bit rate and 25fps

anyone have any ideas ?

copper asked for better footage on Friday and is expecting it Monday (tomorrow)   I've been trying all weekend but I'm stuck

Handbrake?

I'm just having a go now.

480 is how many scanlines there are.  480 is standard.520 is posh :D

Might be worth grabing a trial of Adobe Premier Pro, that can usually open anything and its very good for editing. If I still had my copy installed I'd have a go for you.

managed to get them into mp4 format through cctv system  (each file took 2 hours to convert!)

bit stretched now, but downloaded premier pro, will try to fix it in there

tried everything, nothing would do it

tried premier pro but it kept making a mess of the mp4 files
(even had nige helping via skype screen share)

fraps didn;t work to capture screen

downloaded Bandicam (fraps copy) and screen-recorded watching the videos in their original format with the CCTV's own player tool

boring as hell siting watching it 4 times over (for 4 cameras) but it worked so all done now :-)

I was in 6am tuesday morning, but had to sort out some deliveries for a driver then I had to be in leeds by 9am so couldn't hang around - quickly printed out his picture from one of the cameras

by the time I got back at lunch time guys at work already had his name and address waiting for me

guess if you're a junky burglar it's a bad idea to burgle a factory around the corner from where you live :-o

oooold thread

but he finally went to court... and he was let off because a witness didn't turn up

there were no witnesses, and I was told not to go (because he's local, might cause problems etc..)

CPS sent me a letter about it, I complained, they replied with a load pages of waffle that didn't actually say anything

have been told he's a police grass, which I guess fits with this

awesome :-(

it didn't !

police showed me my knives they found at his place, got me to ID them, sign some stuff etc. then took them away again

laptops were never seen again (they were worthless tho)

only just realised I'm owed some knives when you posted that!

Thought about bringing a private prosecution & then sue CPS? At least get it in the local rag
