Solar Powered Pond Pumps
on: July 17, 2008, 17:47:39 PM
My mum has this stupid idea she wants a pond in the garden, but doesnt want to run a supply to it. So had the idea of getting a solar powered pump for it. But, can you get them where you can turn them off, and they store the power...so in theory you can turn it on, on a dull day?

Anyone know of any?

I think the usual idea that youd expect to be aired here is that youd use the Eheim in your puter and get the free cooling the pond offers ;)

Solar powered pumps....dont do it.

Seriously. This is coming from a couple of years in aquatics retail. Our shop didnt even sell the damned things as they were just pants. The kind of output they had was pathetic. The only way id imagine a system would work would be to get one of those big solar panels from B&Q, sort out a power cell and switch, and connect it to a normal pump. But then at that kind of cost, you might as well just hire a landscaper/pond maintenance guy to sort out a wired pond/pump professionally, hiding all the cables etc.

Im sure how big the pond will be to be honest, I dont think it will be that big though.

Cheers Zpyder, I will let my mum know how crap they are....then let her make the decision.
