Im getting fed up with scratching my CDs so can someone recommend me a bit of software that can rip CDs and DVDs to *.ISO format so i can just mount the image rather than trash the disc by accident.

Any suggestions?

Most of the good or nice or common ones, nero for example, dvdDecrypter also

will nero read from CD and write to an image? it had trouble reading this disc anyway, is there an app made just to do this?

clone cd (obviously) can, theres one i use called magicIso, and dvdDecrypter
