bear:
Will he be as popular as QE II ?

knighty:
nope!

she should have stepped down a few years back and make him king then, given him a chance

Clock'd 0Ne:
I don't think anyone is too fussed really, they're just figureheads with little responsibility.

neXus:
I do not think you guys thought through the actual changes and costs behind all that.

For me he is too old and he should have advocated to William who will be a longer lasting and better liked king.

Charles has 10-20 years and likely 10-15 tops at best.

Lots of changes are required not just in the UK but across all British linked countries.

1. New anthem - You got to sing God Save The King now. Anything written in that regard will have to be updated/replaced.
2. Prayers change. A lot of Prayer has Queen stuff in it so they change and any books, print, digital will all have to update.
3. UK will need new stamps - Transition over but technically no new can be printed and be legal tender with the queen on it.
4. Passports. While they have already come out and said you will not need a new one till yours expires it is technically invalid as the queen grants the permission. Countries "Technically" could refuse your passport over this. They wont - but they could. Any new ones issued have to be the King otherwise these are even more invalid because they are produced post queen.
5. Money. Not just the UK but lots of other countries will need to change their money and it is supposed to be a sooner than later thing. ASAP new money and then a period of filtering that out.
6. Post boxes: These have EIIR on them so will need to be replaced with KIIIC
7. Anything with HRH, EIIR and the queens royal seal of approval and water mark will all have to be replaced. Documentation, legal documents, court documents and more will need to be updated. Lots of uniforms in the army, police, hospitals and more will need to update.
8. Lots of stuff around charities will change and anything related to her in documentation, branding etc - which there is a lot.
9. Oath Swearing - All the wording, any printed documentation around that. Not just in the UK but in lots of countries.

There are number of other changes as well but globally you are talking of millions if not billions of dollars of changes. For a king who only has 10-15 years in him - That is a lot spend and time. Queen money MAY still be floating around still when William takes the thrown.
Like I said it would have been better for him to say "I am too old" and let his son take over because all of the above would be longer lasting and William has the wife with no issues, the kids and a family that is well liked.

It's about time they sacked all of that off though really isn't it? Put more aspirational people on the bank notes, etc. It's not like the old days either where changing notes, stamps, etc was a big deal, it's no doubt a lot simpler to revise these things in the digital age. How many variations of stamps are there in circulation including all the Harry Potter/GoT themed crap? Not saying it's still not going to cost a shedload of money to do all these things, but maybe people will start to reflect on that.

It just re-inforces the point that while they are lovely figureheads, good for tourism, etc they are imperial relics and really shouldn't be tethered into so many things any more.
