A little known fact....

The first testicular guard "Cup" was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974.

That means it took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.

If you loose your head you would not be able to use the other part anyway.
But it does hurt like hell though so I can see why thick sculled people want to protect the jewels :)

Cricket got the first helmet, one made by a player himself, in the 30s, but they didnt become at all common until the 70s.

Warriors got the idea of helmets pretty early on but the testicular guard, known as the codpiece, appeared much later.

Speaking of cricket, Ive been watching the IPL on ITV4 when I’ve had the chance and I’ve noticed that a few players have chosen not to wear a helmet. Considering some of the bowlers were bowling at speeds of up to 85 - 90mph, I sure as hell would be wearing one.

I think its a tactic by the batsmen. In this world of health and safety and what not I personally think bowlers dont bowl the shorter ball to people not wearing helmets.

Also I think the speedguns these days over read the mph by quite a bit. I think Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar were the last bowlers to get past the actual 90+mph mark
