Local election results
on: May 05, 2017, 17:56:01 PM
As expected Conservatives did very well. Lib-Dems didn't do much at all and Labour lost a good number of seats.

Big loser was UKIP, so far retaining just one seat out of 144.

There was also a very odd result. When you have counted the votes, and recounted them twice more, what do you do if there is still a tie?

Well the returning officer has the choice of tossing a coin or drawing straws...

Very democratic,-NOT! But it saves the cost of another election. In this case it was decided straws and the Conservatives lost to the Lib-Dem candidate. This result also denied the Conservatives control of Northumberland County.

Which might be an idea, just draw straws for all elections! Would save us a lot of time, some money, and effort. (yes, I'm joking, probably...)

I believe there was another ballot also decided this way - but they drew a name out of a ballot box!

My local election for my ward was cancelled. 3 members get elected & there was only 3 candidates (all labour).
I did not even get the opportunity to spoil my paper.

The correct choice, the system is utterly broken.

I didn't even get to vote for a Councillor. I did vote for my local Mayor, I have met her.

The system isn't just utterly broken, it always was utterly broken. The problem is what do you replace it with?
