Hmm at the risk of delving in!! :)

Think Im with Sam here - it was way easier for joe dumbass to download illegally in 2000 than it is now. Napster was one install - that was it. If someone came round and installed it for you (happened A LOT!!) you only had to run it and it was all there for you. You didnt have to go via various search websites, you didnt need to download the full album (or learn how to select files specific files from a torrent), and you didnt have to unzip / unrar (or fix broken archives!). You also didnt have to avoid mental amounts of porn, spam and malware you get on torrent seach websites plus back then noone really thought about whether what they were doing was right or wrong.

Im not saying its difficult now but you definitely need to be more clued in than you did then. Its easy to forget how hard many people find things that to people like us are just second nature. I remember when bittorrent first came about how many people I had to go and show over and over again how to use it - and these were fairly tech savvy people.

What I will say though is people are a lot more aware these days and they have more use for the MP3 format.
Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!
