I hope everyone likes the neo-SamBB look. Comments welcome. No doubt some will hate this worse than the bright silver
-
needs some work TBH
buttons bars etc etc but youll need access to the server
-
Me likey
-
I have access to the server. Dont forget to do a full refresh of all the cached images, etc.
Post reply, for instance, may look peculiar because it is in its own frame, and the stylesheet needs to be refreshed there by your browser also.
-
much better
-
nice job!
are we going to get a silver one again like on the old boards?
-
Oh and whats wrong with the buttons brummie? You mean the submit post ones or the image buttons (new topic, etc)?
To do more than one skin we need to hack the board, I cant do that myself
-
Oh and whats wrong with the buttons brummie? You mean the submit post ones or the image buttons (new topic, etc)?

they were designed with the old skin and are not very good with this skin. around the edge etc , espcially the stars
I can live with it but it could put people of joining as it looks a bit off
-
I used to use the old silver as I like brightness, but this has the potential to look like the old boards if thats the consensus. All thing winging about hurty eyeballs tells me that SOME people dont know how to adjust their monitors.
Itll look pretty nice when gussied up, but skinning matters little to me. Almost there anyway.
-
Yep, Im going to fix those next. Other than that you likey?
Cheers max. We will provide a range eventually, so those that prefer light skins can have them, I know not everyone likes them dark.

Its because of the matte colour being wrong.....as nige said, hes sorting it :D
-
Itlll look a lot better once the buttons get cleaned up. If you need help with that, lemme know and I might be able to Gimp them tonight.

i totally prefer it to the original!! Good work there matey!

Aahh, Much more homely

No skin offa my patooty if it stays dark, and I dont know if jForum offers theme switching on the fly.
Just get rid of the creepy squirrel!!! Its EVIL.
-
its getting there. good one clocked.
-
Im gonna download some buttons and stars and have a poke and a giggle, so let me know if somebodys already working on it.
-
Thats exactly what Im trying to do now, for some reason I cant find the page navigation numbers anymore :?
-
I see them, try a refresh.
-
Where do you mean? I see them fine in posts, but not on the forum screen. I know we have more than these twenty or so posts listed in GD.
-

i was wondering this earlier. maybe they are getting deleted when the go off the first page?

http://rapidshare.de/files/16176087/buttons3.zip.html
Some of the beginning ones kinda suck as I was being stupid about RGB and that transparency stuff. Ooops. Mostly good tho.
-
They should all be up now :)
-
LOL, the empty star spaces look a bit rough. :P
a few buttons are missing, but easy enough to redo. I gotta run out, but if theyre not done later, Ill Gimp them meself.
-
Nice work Sir :)
it all happened between page refreshes for me, was a bit of a shock :)
-
looking good now, much better :)
tho when you do "view recent topics" the column on the far right is white instead of blue ;)
-
Fixed
-
oh oh oh oh! Instead of the ragged star spaces, can we have something like cabbages instead? :D
-
Hearts?
Lets show vegetable love and have artichoke hearts :D
-
lmao, as if you could make it recognizable at that rez. :P
Ill see if I can do an artichoke or a lemon or something kooky. Gunshot holes? Who knows!
-
Looks nice :D and familiar
-
I rather like it.. Just need a new logo :) We going to decide on one or?
-
Well Clockd was complaining about amature offerings in the other thread, looks like we have got one :mutley:
Sorry Clockd it was too tempting :D
-
looking good now, Im suitably impressed :)
-
great I feel at home again
-
OK, I think I fixed the rest of the ugly buttons to the best of my ability. pretty hard to get right with dark backgrounds.
There are star_off.gif alternates included!! :D :D
(http://static.flickr.com/47/116568395_68f53f425d_o.gif)(http://static.flickr.com/53/116568396_6337112dea_o.gif)(http://static.flickr.com/44/116568397_f2a0dc6f97_o.gif)
Avocado! Broken Heart! Lemon!
Its hard to make something 15x15px look like anything at all.
Cant have a star, have something else.

hate to be a pain in the ass, but the bar that sepperates opsts from sigs is fugly !
plus it changes size depending on the length of a post, which makes it more ove. :(
this thread shows it up well
http://www.tekforums.co.uk/posts/list/0/214.page#2404
-
It might be brutal but at least it deliniates the post from the sig :)
Clockd - when you post, quote or edit the review message box below which contains the thread contents is still light with black text.
-
No its not Serious, I explained this in the other thread :) Whats happening is the review box is opening in a new frame that hasnt been refreshed to look for the changes in the stylesheet. In Firefox you can refresh the frame individually, not sure how you do it in IE.
Alan can you take a screenshot and point it out to me? It all looks fine to me, I havnt a clue what you are on about. :?
-
Genius!
Lets have goatsie holes instead of stars :D

Yes....and you should be given 5 for just suggesting it :D
Yer I like the new look, much easier to read now. Somehow it makes me feel like weve gone back in time 5 yrs. Was this how Tek looked in the beginning?
-
http://www.knighty1.com/linescreenshot.JPG
its not a big deal, and its probably a pain in the ass to change... just the different sizes confuse me :(
-
Wow boys, was busy all yesterday evening and I come back to this, nice work!!
I always preferred the silver theme myself so Ill look forward to that but no hurry. :D
-
some people are never happy :P

I can confirm that that is because IE is tossed salad and it looks fine in Firefox. Its nothing to do with me. The solution is to pad out your posts or use a better browser
-
alan stop being a tard and chuck firefox onto your box
-
its looking awesome :D
-
Or alternatively nige could get his act together and sort it out. Itll be his fecking around with the CSS that messed it up.
Im not using firefox purely because im being forced to to browse forums that were fine previously.
And that banner we have. Needs work, whatever happened to blending in something with the background??
-
Oh stop being so picky.
-
picky?
I dislike being forced into using an inferior browser (in my opinion) because someone broke something that they cant be arsed to fix.
The logo is actually quite a good one (I like the effect on the forums bit) but it needs to blend in with the forums, not stick out like a sore thumb as it currently does.
-
is it the skin thats killed your "uber" browser then?
-
Here ya are ill make it better later ;)
-
guessing the problem is with ie not supporting the w3c settings for divs and css
meaning things go everywhere, i tried the site in ie and everything seems fine to me
-
is it the skin thats killed your "uber" browser then?
Actually its the poorly coded css that is probably the cause of the crap looking bit of the forums.
And brummies edit is more like it :)

You do love jumping to the wrong conclusions.
How changing hex colour values can be misconstrued as a "lazy arse fecking it up and not bothered about fixing it" is beyond me.
Read again, Ive changed NOTHING other than the colours.
-
Lol@ Firefox is inferior.
Sure, thats why IE7 is a carbon copy more or less.
-
ATM IE7 runs like a sack of sh*te!
-
Yep, but style and feature wise.
-
liking the style. almost thought when i seen it that i would have to re register again lol.
almost back to the good old days

What would you say is the problem then?
Worked before the CSS change, doesnt work any longer. Ive installed nothing on this machine in fact its been off for the majority of two days.
Hmm.. my sleuth-like detective abilities pin it down to whats changed.. youve admitted to changing the CSS since I last visited here, and now its naffed.
In my opinion IE6 is a more stable affair than Firefox, I dislike firefox intensely, Everytime I have to use it I have to go into the damn options and turn off a million and one things that I dont need. Regardless of whats the better browser, I prefer IE. I will not be forced into using it because of a fixable problem, as such the usual "install firefox" crap that folks on here come out with has no place in this thread with regards to me.
Edit:
Just done a quick validation on it. Appears youve missed a #
http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tekforums.co.uk%2Ftemplates%2Fdefault%2Fstyles%2Fstyle.css&usermedium=all
IE behaves fecking wierd when a > is missed so this small thing could be the fault (could not.. but it could be)
Edit Edit: Appears the w3c thing is borked.. unless it really doesnt recognise #000000 as a legit colour.
-
Well... lets solve this problem, i saved the old .css a couple days ago, and have just aved the new one....M3ta7h3ad, you can spot the changes yourself as it seems for everyone its working fine
-
my guess is that is was there with the old one, you just couldnt see it due to the colours but now the colour has changed you can.

Open it in IE mate then view sweensters post.. notice the big chunk?
And im beginning to side with sweenster. Couldnt see it before but you can now.
-
Right, so are we any closer to finding out what is causing it? If we do, I can fix it.
Nice of you to work together finding the problem rather wasting it attacking me for it
-
Can we fix the maderforkin problem so theese n00bs stop whining?
:P
Anyone got a screen of the original skin so we can see if there are vestigal hints of the current "problem"?

From this it looks as if it was always there... you just couldnt see it (click for 1280x1024)
-
It seems that IE is adding a vertical line into the sig for some reason!
-
Its the table cells I think.
The
silver bit is fine. but for some reason the nested cells are naffed up :|
Edit ere we go:

Old silver looks just fine. Probably something stupidly simple in the css, enough eyes here to catch it.
Or could it be that Internet Exploder suxxors?  :P
-
IE is at fault here
-
Yeah, there seems to be an erroneous horizontal line added in IE. Odd.
Also (only in IE) the sig separator line moves up when the post is shorter than the avatart/info space on the left. Wonder why...
-
LOL, I wonder if anybodys running Vista and can see if it works on the newest IE. Would be quite interesting.
-
I seem to recall IE not handling .css height properties... ill have a check
-
Guys:
1. Could you thumbnail images please
2. I know the css Ie error that does things like that, i will help nige sort it out.
-
How about somat like this for the logo
based on the old en posted above
(http://www.brummie.me.uk/old/uploads/Screenshot2.png)

I like it - oooh its an alpha-transparent PNG, is it? Itll look great in FF but a bit rubbish in IE...
-
And brummie.... heres how it looks (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/michael.gedrim/test.html)
And sara... it looks fine in FF, Opera and Mozilla...and comletly sh*te in IE
-
Id like that logo without serifs.
-
Id have to agree... me no likey serifd fonts
-
Could just Gif it and itll work in IE too.
-
But it would only work for a single skin!!!!!!!!

Gifs supported transparancy way back before pngs came around.

Pah I suck at image edityness.. I think its cause I selected dither or something.

And.. Chris?
Why have you nicked the naked version of saras avatar?

Matte is achieved simply by not pushing the highlights into white. ;)

That didnt make sense to me... as i understand it the matte colour is the colour that everything which has an opacity of less the 100% (ie not a solid colour), after layers are flattened, are blended to

Max, well save your effort for Valentines day 2007
-
And good choice nige :) Sorry for getting on your back mate. Twasnt you I was pissed at. Its the "use firefox" cronies on ere that get my back up sometimes.
It isnt a major issue, sure it looks messed up but its not stopping me from reading the forums :)
-
Max, well save your effort for Valentines day 2007
awwww, and I was going to make a whole new button set with kitties and duckies and everything.

M3ta7h3ad....were not saying get firefox, your a retard without it.... its just frustrationg when your code is fine for 99.8% of browsers and M$s crap programmers wont/cant accomodate w3 standards

IE is these days since mid way though 5s life the oddball, all the rest went one way in terms of css with w3schools guidlines and ms acted like noobs.
Simple fixes are:
Looking at css and sort that bit of code to work for both if possible.
If not it takes 5 minutes to make a bit of code to pick up what browser you use and use one of 2 stylesheets.
-
get you
-
Good point! Id not looked at it that simply before

Here is a better top bar if you want

Used!

I love it it makes the whole forum feel like Tek again, great job thanks to all the Admins for getting this site community up.
-
Can i suggest an alternative to the grey thats left too.
or it could be barified
(http://www.brummie.me.uk/old/uploads/cellpic1.gif)
-
Uh uh, dont take all of our grey. Just a little left for us that prefer it.
sniff
-
grey blows, get shot lol ;)
-
The whole screen will be blue soon, how many more bars do we need to be slightly different tones of bl00?
-
I find this skin much harder on the eyes than the standard Jforum tbh, not that its painful, but the original is more "ergo" imho. its just that most folks set the brightness on their monitors too far up and sit in dark rooms.
-
Thats why I specifically didnt choose high contrast colours, the white is more silver and the blues are not depressingly dark; I thought it was easier on the eyes too. To be fair, a 22" CRT makes any page seem bright though.
-
got 1000:1 contrast ratio on this thing... anything is bloody bright lol
-
This is better than the original TF colors. White on really dark text is very annoying to read. I did notice the silver text. ;)
-
I use a laptop which has **** all adjustment available without going through a load of hoops. Present forum skin is very nice indeed but I did prefer the Black option :)
maxi we all occasionally have to make compromises for the forum good ;)
-
looks awsom now, just like old times :)
for the best readability... I think gold text on a black bacground is suposed to be the best ? least that was what I was told at A-Level was in quite a few books too, so its not just what some guy thought... (not that Im sugesting it)
-
maxi we all occasionally have to make compromises for the forum good ;)
Hell, I helped tweak the interface on this board, albeit in a small way, didnt think I was bitching, just making commentary.
Im not a fan of high contrast, nor of wiseguys that do the grey text on white background baloney.
The level of contrast on the board is OK, I just prefer the light/dark reversed. :P

We are all different so while it may be best for a majority of people it certainly wouldnt suit everyone.
-
you should be able to store your own style sheet locally, and thus make your own :p
-

Well on this screen its all blue, why not make it uniform ??

Okay, the original gradient bar is here to edit:
http://rapidshare.de/files/16288361/cellpic1.gif.html
It will look much nicer.
-
(http://www.brummie.me.uk/old/uploads/cellpic1.gif)
if you could make the category titles a different colour it would look better as the back ground to that bar has to be so much lighter than the rest of the forum IMO
-
I have updated it now with a gradient
(http://www.brummie.me.uk/old/uploads/cellpic1.gif)
EDIT: ooh it changed, well the gradient is there anyhow and the white looks much better
-
It does look alot nicer with the gradient. Good work chaps!
