Post by: Clock'd 0Ne on March 22, 2006, 20:50:15 PM
I hope everyone likes the neo-SamBB look. Comments welcome. No doubt some will hate this worse than the bright silver

I have access to the server. Dont forget to do a full refresh of all the cached images, etc.

Post reply, for instance, may look peculiar because it is in its own frame, and the stylesheet needs to be refreshed there by your browser also.

are we going to get a silver one again like on the old boards?

Oh and whats wrong with the buttons brummie? You mean the submit post ones or the image buttons (new topic, etc)?

To do more than one skin we need to hack the board, I cant do that myself

they were designed with the old skin and are not very good with this skin. around the edge etc , espcially the stars

I can live with it but it could put people of joining as it looks a bit off

I used to use the old silver as I like brightness, but this has the potential to look like the old boards if thats the consensus. All thing winging about hurty eyeballs tells me that SOME people dont know how to adjust their monitors.

Itll look pretty nice when gussied up, but skinning matters little to me. Almost there anyway.

Yep, Im going to fix those next. Other than that you likey?

Cheers max. We will provide a range eventually, so those that prefer light skins can have them, I know not everyone likes them dark.

hate to be a pain in the ass, but the bar that sepperates opsts from sigs is fugly !

plus it changes size depending on the length of a post, which makes it more ove. :(

this thread shows it up well

It might be brutal but at least it deliniates the post from the sig :)

Clockd - when you post, quote or edit the review message box below which contains the thread contents is still light with black text.
Title: Re:New style
Post by: Clock'd 0Ne on March 23, 2006, 08:44:47 AM
No its not Serious, I explained this in the other thread :) Whats happening is the review box is opening in a new frame that hasnt been refreshed to look for the changes in the stylesheet. In Firefox you can refresh the frame individually, not sure how you do it in IE.

Alan can you take a screenshot and point it out to me? It all looks fine to me, I havnt a clue what you are on about. :?

Or alternatively nige could get his act together and sort it out. Itll be his fecking around with the CSS that messed it up.

Im not using firefox purely because im being forced to to browse forums that were fine previously.

And that banner we have. Needs work, whatever happened to blending in something with the background??

Title: Re:New style

picky?

I dislike being forced into using an inferior browser (in my opinion) because someone broke something that they cant be arsed to fix.

The logo is actually quite a good one (I like the effect on the forums bit) but it needs to blend in with the forums, not stick out like a sore thumb as it currently does.

You do love jumping to the wrong conclusions.

How changing hex colour values can be misconstrued as a "lazy arse fecking it up and not bothered about fixing it" is beyond me.

What would you say is the problem then?

Worked before the CSS change, doesnt work any longer. Ive installed nothing on this machine in fact its been off for the majority of two days.

Hmm.. my sleuth-like detective abilities pin it down to whats changed.. youve admitted to changing the CSS since I last visited here, and now its naffed.

In my opinion IE6 is a more stable affair than Firefox, I dislike firefox intensely, Everytime I have to use it I have to go into the damn options and turn off a million and one things that I dont need. Regardless of whats the better browser, I prefer IE. I will not be forced into using it because of a fixable problem, as such the usual "install firefox" crap that folks on here come out with has no place in this thread with regards to me.

Edit:

Just done a quick validation on it. Appears youve missed a #

http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tekforums.co.uk%2Ftemplates%2Fdefault%2Fstyles%2Fstyle.css&usermedium=all

IE behaves fecking wierd when a is missed so this small thing could be the fault (could not.. but it could be)

Edit Edit: Appears the w3c thing is borked.. unless it really doesnt recognise #000000 as a legit colour.

Also (only in IE) the sig separator line moves up when the post is shorter than the avatart/info space on the left. Wonder why...

Matte is achieved simply by not pushing the highlights into white. ;)

That didnt make sense to me... as i understand it the matte colour is the colour that everything which has an opacity of less the 100% (ie not a solid colour), after layers are flattened, are blended to

IE is these days since mid way though 5s life the oddball, all the rest went one way in terms of css with w3schools guidlines and ms acted like noobs.

Simple fixes are:

Looking at css and sort that bit of code to work for both if possible.
If not it takes 5 minutes to make a bit of code to pick up what browser you use and use one of 2 stylesheets.

The whole screen will be blue soon, how many more bars do we need to be slightly different tones of bl00?

I find this skin much harder on the eyes than the standard Jforum tbh, not that its painful, but the original is more "ergo" imho. its just that most folks set the brightness on their monitors too far up and sit in dark rooms.
Title: Re:New style
Post by: Clock'd 0Ne on March 24, 2006, 01:03:01 AM
Thats why I specifically didnt choose high contrast colours, the white is more silver and the blues are not depressingly dark; I thought it was easier on the eyes too. To be fair, a 22" CRT makes any page seem bright though.

Post by: Binary Shadow on March 24, 2006, 01:03:56 AM
got 1000:1 contrast ratio on this thing... anything is bloody bright lol

This is better than the original TF colors. White on really dark text is very annoying to read. I did notice the silver text. ;)

I use a laptop which has **** all adjustment available without going through a load of hoops. Present forum skin is very nice indeed but I did prefer the Black option :)

maxi we all occasionally have to make compromises for the forum good  ;)

for the best readability... I think gold text on a black bacground is suposed to be the best ?  least that was what I was told at A-Level  was in quite a few books too, so its not just what some guy thought...  (not that Im sugesting it)

Hell, I helped tweak the interface on this board, albeit in a small way, didnt think I was bitching, just making commentary.

Im not a fan of high contrast, nor of wiseguys that do the grey text on white background baloney.

The level of contrast on the board is OK, I just prefer the light/dark reversed. :P

We are all different so while it may be best for a majority of people it certainly wouldnt suit everyone.

Okay, the original gradient bar is here to edit:

It will look much nicer.

if you could make the category titles a different colour it would look better as the back ground to that bar has to be so much lighter than the rest of the forum IMO
