Rhetoric over there is obviously different to here then, if you have a link to the actual stats you're talking about it would be interesting to see.

As of that release 18% of hospitalisations were fully vaccinated. The rest were either not, or only partially.

You're right, I'll split this off and make a new thread as it's an interesting topic (UK vs NZ differences)....though for a thread about trying to be back on the internet, it's a great reminder about how things tend to veer off course and go down unintended rabbit holes!

It will be like the flu.
You got to get a jab every year to account for the variants if you do not want to get sick or die.
That is the hope.
The worry scientists have is because its COVID (noting its COVID-19 and COVID has been around for a long time) this version and the mutations could lead to something basically zombie plague level that could wipe out half the globe if it mutates in the wrong way.
