It goes to show humanity is not just for humans. Even if it were all coincidence, its still a wonderful story.

I do not think it was a coincidence as elephants are known to mourn their dead.

Loads of stories like this with elephants. There's a video i saw online once of an elephant in a zoo withits foot stuck through a tyre hanging from a rope. She's in distress and 2/3 others all group together and managed to wriggle her foot free. Its fascintating and so human in many ways.
Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!

I find it incredibly arrogant of us as humans to believe that we are the only species capable of any form of emotion. We are after all just an animal like any other, our evolutionary path has lead us to higher levels of intelligence than any other species on earth certainly, but that doesn't mean all other species are totally without the characteristics we think of as "human".

I'm always fascinated by stories like this one, and similarly although a different emotion the one about the ape brothers who were reunited a few weeks ago after years apart. They go to show that animals are not so different from us as we might otherwise believe.

It's like Christian the lion, when he was reunited with his former owner, check it out on YouTube if you haven't seen it! It's quite heartwarming.
