over here, back in the good old uk, most companies will switch you over to renewable energy (mostly wind and hydro) for free ;)

a few of the "green" energy companies did it and the rest had to follow to save from losing customers :o

How can it be for free, if everyone did it then it would cost them a lot more, since renewable is way more expensive ?

Am guessing the govt subsidised it or something, so that the companies got a big incentive for getting green power in. Could also be one of these things where they lure you in and in 2-3 years time, hey presto, its no longer free/cheap and youre paying more than if youd have stuck with what you had before. Maybe some dealing in carbon credits, if they have xxx amount of customers on green energy, they get bonus carbon credits which they can then use to offset less greener power or something?

Im still of the mind that if the powers that be (scuse the pun) really wanted, they could make it so that all new buildings had to use solar tiles. Given that these alone are at the stage of putting more energy into the grid than is used by the house, Id have thought in a scenario where all houses used them, the extra power requirements would be much less than currently needed. You do of course run into the issues of the cost (financial and evironmental) of producing the tiles, as well as the issue of newer tech being much more efficient. Sweden or somewhere had an iniative like this, and they found that the cost to subsidise it all at the time wasnt really worth it, but had they done it now the benefits would have been much much greater.

Earth will be, but resources might not be?

Given the rise in fuel costs, how long do you think itll be before its £5 a litre instead of £1? I wouldnt be surprised if its not less than £1.50 by the end of next year, and maybe £2.50-£3 within 5 years. All in a time frame of your life. Its not just fuel though which we get from oil but plastics etc too :|

Not quite to do with electricity but linked, obviously some things need to be done to make the shift to something which isnt going to cost the earth (scuse the pun) and pretty sharpish.

Trouble is there are a lot of people with eggs Im all right, Jack attitude. Lots more people are buying cars and home appliances that use electricity, which makes these resources even more scarce. The more fuel they burn the less there will be and the higher the prices.

People like egg are the first to moan loudly when the petrol price jumps at the pumps while filling their gas guzzlers.
