Photograph of the month - August 2006
on: August 03, 2006, 16:39:03 PM
Please note: the aim of this is to get people out and to use their cameras in different ways to what they might normally do so, to achieve this the rules state that the photograph must be taken in the month of the competition and relate to the theme in some way.

Each month a different thread will be created and at the end of the month a poll will be added including all entries that are deemed valid. Non valid entries will be automatically excluded. The named winner then copies over the text of this post and replaces the theme with one of their choice.

Include a description of a few words as to why you feel your picture fills the theme.

Once the thread has been started peoples entries have to be posted in that thread. Each entrant is only allowed ONE POST in the thread to cover ONE IMAGE that he has entered. The last image posted is the one that will be used, all others will be removed when a Mod/admin can be arsed...

Deadline for all entries will be the 28th of the month that it starts on, leaving a few days then for Voting to take place and the winner to be declared.

I suggest that the winner picks the next theme by the 1st of the next month, so 2 days of voting start on the 28th by the 1st the winner will post another thread following the format as mentioned above, replacing the THEME with his/her chosen theme.

Those are the rules for entry - C&Pd from M3TAHEADs post.

Entry is now open for August 06.

Deadline Midnight of August 28th.

Post your entries below.

Well have the theme of Duo tone/black & white/Grayscale

fairly straight forward photos should be either desaturated or taken with the B&W setting in cam, colour tints like sepia, blue and tobacco etc are allowed.

coulour cut outs are not allowed, seebelow for an example of a colour cut out

Good luck.

P.S. Each winner will go into a gallery, which ill host... so weve got a decent collection of pictures, if thats ok with everyone?

Dating data will be needed too so be careful to preserve this if possible. exif is data that is inserted into photographs by digital cameras

If your picture is regarded as too big it may be edited to just a link by a Moderator, there is no upper limit on picture size.

copied from Badabing post and edited where needed

Ace, well heres my first entry: (Early on I know, I might change it yet, but I decided to go for a walk and see if anything tickled my fancy).

Desaturated and resized in Photoshop, Taken at 11pm on a random bench, long exposure time, but i wandered off halfway through (intentionally) gettin the ghost effect.

I told my friends I was going ghost hunting lol.

Link to the original file :) (Its massiiiive)

Standard is very high, didnt get to do one myself as other issues have been paramount for the last few weeks and my brother borrowed my FZ20 for his sons wedding.

Voting is now open.

Love this photo! Just curious, how did you not get a blur of you moving out of the way of the camera?

You got a big version of that Bear?
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

DannyUKs got my vote because its just brilliantly contrasted.

Bears would have it if it wasnt cropped so tightly in my opinion. Its a nice composition.

Punks is a damn good attempt too, with nice use of the quirks of long exposure photography to get the image he wants, except everything is a bit... too grey, looks like hes greyscaled it in photoshop and not dodged and burnt anything to adjust the contrast a little.

I like punks as Ive not seen anything like for a long time  and looks quite original so he gets my vote but it is a tight contest.

I did! If you loko carefully at the top, you can see where my head blurred, I just had to run very fast to get as little as possible. It was ten second exposure with a low ISO so I had a fair bit of time.

Well on my myspace version, I did do a little bit of shopping to make it look better, but i didnt know if that was against the rules? So I just desaturated and left it.

Personally I like dannys great use of perspective and shadows no amount of photoshopping can make up for good lighting conditions.

No rules against shopping providing it isnt blatant like the lens flare in one of mine that I didnt put into last months compo.
