well these glorified bus drivers will occasionally hit the odd old lady walking out into the road.

flying is still statistically safer than walking.

Difference is usually when a car crashses you get out and walk away. If a plane crashes into the sea youre screwed.

My thoughts exactly! At least with a car crash theres no 2 minutes of pure "oh sh*t Im going to die" as you plummet towards the ocean.....

Quick google for stats... I know they dont mean everything but for something like this they sort of highlight now little an issue it is.

Car Crash Deaths in the USA alone (2003) - 42,884
Plane Crash Deaths worldwide (2003) - 1,224

51% of accidents recorded occurred during landing, 27% during flight and 20% during takeoff. 37% of accidents concern scheduled passenger flight, 12% military flights, 11% cargo flights, 8% private flights

The ACRO announced that the year 2007 was the safest year in aviation since 1963 in terms of number of accidents.[1] There had been 136 accidents registered (compared to 164 in 2006), resulting in a total of 965 deaths (compared to 1,293 in 2006

oh and...

Air travel is the safest form of transportation available. Trains have .04 deaths for every 100 million miles while air travel has .01 deaths for every 100 million miles traveled. Compared to the automobile, with .94 deaths per 100 million miles, both figures are low.[3] [4]According to the BBC: "UK airline operations are among the safest anywhere. When compared against all other modes of transport on a fatality per mile basis air transport is the safest - six times safer than traveling by car and twice as safe as rail."

I know its incredibly rare and all that but for me its how much sheer terror youd go through if it DID happen to you. I cant imagine a lot worse than falling 30,0000 ft knowing whats about to happen, or as Sam said setting down in the sea and drowning in the fuselage......

Its also about how many miles you do. I work with guys who fly daily/weekly and I always say to them if you fly all the time eventually somethings gonna happen and in a plane it only has to happen once.....

Ill take a car/bus/ferry/train anyday thank you.  8-)

Why do they insist on putting this in every sodding news article:

Quote
A spokesman for Londons Metropolitan Police said there was nothing to suggest the incident was terror-related.

Are people really so stupid or it simply to keep driving home that we should be on high alert to make the media happy?

Also with these stats, people dont take into account that in a car you can avoid lots of accidents by sticking in the slow lane going the speed limit. How many accidents are caused by drunk drivers going 140 and just killing themselves and their passengers.

Also if you want to quote stats, then world car deaths? Oh please, like the deaths on Indias roads is relevant, or in the USA where the driving test consists of a quick run around a car park. Lets see deaths on Britains roads.
