Premium Vodkas
on: June 02, 2008, 21:55:36 PM
Does anyone have any experience of properly premium vodkas? I dont meen the off the shelf smirnoff etc.

I tried Russian Standard vodka for the first time a few months ago and realised that vodka didnt have to taste rank when drunk straight (and cold). Since then ive been looking into proper premium vodkas.

Ive just ordered a bottle of Russian Standard Imperia, the companys flagship vodka. Hopefully it will be worth the £35 i just paid!

I was wondering if anyone had any experience in drinking other vodkas such as Kauffman, Ultimat, Absolut Level, Stolichnaya Elit or even Smirnoff who apparently do a nice vodka called Smirnoff Penka!

Mmmmmmmm ... alcohol

Best vodka Ive tried has been Grey Goose. I dont know how premium it is compared to those you mention, but its certainly smoother and more refined than the plain old Smirnoff and Absolut bottles.

Vodka usually has very little taste which is why its used as a mixer so often.

Some of it is produced from patent whisky stills when they are not producing cheap alcohol for other purposes.

if your drinking vodka neet (especially cheap rubbish) run it through a britta filter first - thats the only difference.. the more expensive ones
are filtered more than the cheap ones - every drunk knows this

I will certainly give that a go, ive got a fair selection of vodkas now ... will be interesting to see the difference. However i dont like the sound of loosing 5% of the alcohol content, that defies the point!

My Imperia hasnt arrived yet but i do have just been give a bottle of Russian Standard Original bought in Russia, will be interesting to see if there is any difference between the UK and Russian product (as there so often is).

in russia, they have vending machines on street corners that sell vodka & beer  :w00t:
sitting on a bench in Red Square, freezing your nads off & sipping vodka & watching the stunners go by... perfect breakfast.
