Strange that what was left out is more interesting than what was left in. Brexit, Brexit, and Brexit with a few other bits that the other main parties mostly agree on. Most of the stuff in the Tory manifesto was ditched.

we're objectively worse off at the moment simply as a result of our currency taking a dive after the Brexit result, though whether we'll be better or worse off in the long run is yet to be seen

Sometimes spending does work, the US got out of the recession between the wars purely by government spending. There have been many other instances too, Gernany after WW1 only failed because of America going into depression.

The recession was caused through banks lending recklessly, not the government spending recklessly. Admittedly the Labour government trusted the banks a bit too much but so did the American one and a lot of others. Capitalism failed because of corporate and personal greed, as it always does.

Austerity can cause a recession to continue or even make it worse, which is what happened when Osbourne got control. It happened previously at the end of WW2 when the government put excessive controls on spending. Had the election that put Cameron in been different and Brown been put in for another term we could well have been much better off now.
