Environmental Scientist...general terminlogy there as Im not a specialist at the moment. Technically not finished until June but hey its so close...

...but the line of work I love and have been doing anyway is general research assistant stuff. Last summer I was down on Arne peninsula and some other places digging pitfall traps (small cups with water in em) to catch insects, before taking them back to identify the species to order level. Other stuff has seen me processing marine sediment samples from the Medina estuary, and "fishsitting" some experimental fish for research for the home office. Tis a mix of stuff really!

Strengths seem to be in species identification and ecology. I think this comes from gardening and working at maidenheads, have had a lot of time to practise learning the common and scientific names and spellings for species Also my techy background has resulted in impressing the lecturers with various aerial maps of the study sites I did in my spare time using a GPS receiver, google earth, and photoshop. Had an offer to do a Masters in Spatial Information Science but at the moment Id rather just finish my degree and just enjoy a year or two of being an RA for the uni and other agencies. RAs get to do the fun stuff in the field and lab, and not the thinking bit

Bournemouth uni...avoid it like the plague. The only reason Ive been semi successful is because I got chummy with the Environmental lecturers, one of them is my dissertation supervisor, and I did a work placement there over summer...they were that impressed they pretty much asked if I wanted a 3 month contract this year and have since given me 2 other short term ones

I suppose the ConSci school isnt that bad, but you just have to be prepared to make the most of learning off of your own back. They cut the teaching down to a minimum (we get 4 hours a week in the last year) so pretty much its a case of "this is what you need to read now go away and read it" each week. I learned more in 3 months of being a volunteer type RA last year and 3 years of them supposedly guiding my education...

Zpyder, there was also me leaving the mods temporarily, and then coming back on the Mod team, entirely due to stress problems at home and the DHSS. Clockd banned red temporarily but its improved the forums so much that I dont think hes unbanned him again.

Anyone mentioned Maxi leaving?
