Grant National 2019
on: April 04, 2019, 19:51:53 PM
Somehow we seem to have missed the 2018 edition, but its back! :worried:

Will we see Matt's uncle's tips appear this year? Will anyone actually win and not lose/break even?

I'll probably go with BetVictor again if they do up to 6th place E/W  though I've not made any picks yet.

https://www.oddschecker.com/grand-national/winner <- odds table, remember generally the odds tumble as the event closes in.

Usual disclaimer stuff of don't bet more than you can afford to lose, etc :ptu:

My uncle is a right nob, I was off ill for a lot of last year, but I text him and he says "I'm not betting this year" then the other day he said to me in the pub "Oh yeah I had last years winner, I just didn't bet on it" ::)

Now as luck would have it I also had last years winner, however this is due to a bizarre deal on bet365, for every horse you put a bet on they give you half your money back in cash ??? I thought surely this ain't legit, yet it is was, and they're doing it again this year. My "technique" was to just pick a ton of horses so I've done it again albeit this year I've been looking on a gambling forum I know of where there are a couple of horse guys who claim to know their stuff.
So this year I've backed 11   it cost me £55 but I've actually got £110 worth of bets on with the deal :ptu:

£5 e/w on all the following,

Anibale Fly 10/1
Rathvinden 10/1
Vintage Clouds 12/1
Jury Duty 20/1
Pleasant company 20/1
Rock The Kasbah 20/1
General Principle 25/1
Dounikos 33/1
Noble Endeavor 33/1
Valseur Lido 66/1
Tea For Two 80/1

edit- note, only 5 places at bet365 but the deal is too good to turn down regardless IMO.
edit - the bet365 offer is "only available to eligible bet365 customers who opened their account before 23:59:59 UK Time on Wednesday 3rd April 2019." https://extra.bet365.com/promotions/en/horse-racing/grand-national-money-back-offer

Sadly it seems you have to have had your bet365 account since before 3rd April, so new accounts won't get that stonking deal.

However, i've decided to go for a similar approach and bet across the same bunch, albeit with much smaller stakes on each  ;D I usually do 3/4 anyway so this should be interesting! Betvictor 6 places E/W as they are the only ones I have an account with.

Pleasant company and Rathvinden leading at half way point, usually means they'll come nowhere mind ::) ::) ::)

2 have placed in the top 6, but won't be much of a return as they were low odds  :-X Shame as they both looked like they could win it, but crazy low odds Tiger Roll bossed that.

I ended £20 down, better than a total shoeing I guess

I considered betting and then slept right through the race. Fibromyalgia is a bitch at times. The positive is I didn't lose and I would not have won anyway.
