Title: The geek in me should love this, but instead quivers in fear
Post by: zpyder on March 18, 2008, 19:55:35 PM
http://gizmodo.com/368651/new-video-of-bigdog-quadruped-robot-is-so-stunning-its-spooky

If I saw one of these (Well, youd hear it first) walking down the street my impulse, after running, would be to kill the damn thing. Something about it is really unsettling...

Has anyone got a link to a decent quality copy of the original video that did the rounds a while back?
i.e. the one that got them the funding in the first place.  I remember it being cool back then but nowhere near this level.

Low res/youtube version here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mpBG-nSRcrQ

for me the most impressive bit is when it slips on the ice and just catches itself and keeps going. Amazing.

its when it detects the patch of ice and automatically uses its built in flame thrower to melt it before proceeding that you have to get scared.
