Software to make circuit diagrams?
on: May 27, 2007, 19:12:41 PM
Basically I want to generate a few schematics for inclusion in reports etc.  Mainly simple, needs to do op-amps, logic gates, schmitt triggers, all the usual.  Not fussed about massive libraries of every known IC, just as long as the basical electrical symbols are there.  Been googling for ages and all I can find is rubbishy bloated software or some home-brew crap that doesnt have even logic gates.

Any ideas?

crocodile clips is the standard really

though it is very simplistic

i would recommend something i used whilst i was doing electrical engineering but you wouldnt be able to get a copy and it is far too much over what you need

God bless ADS!!!

Used Crocclips in college also used OrCAD .

Croc Clips... used that in yr9 electronics. GCSE, A level and Degree... used Electronics Workbench :)

Croc clips takes me back to the days of yr 9 electronics also. Gah.  I only really want somehting to knock up a sketch of part of an optical fibre link Im designing. Ill probably hand-draw the schematics for now since its getting late and I still have another report to go tonight.

Worth a look, I havent tried these myself and tbh I am useless at designing circuits personally, although I have put a few together - including a high power cascade atmospheric ioniser...

Hmm interesting.  They all seem to be oriented towards simulation or PCB layout though, essentially I just want an electronics-based drawing program!

Anyway, on with the VLSI  :gag:

Ive used several freeware ones in the past so they do exist but I cant remember any names unfortunately. :(

Anyway just wanted to mention that autocad and similar have electronic components in their libraries so if you have general CAD access at uni they should all work for a simple circuit at the gate level.

National Instruments LabView Electronics Workbench, they give you a free 30 day trial with most of the features active (including print), the download is quite large though, 400mb rings a bell.
