Copied from BBC "Coronavirus pandemic 'accelerating': WHO chief

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) says the coronavirus pandemic is "accelerating".

Speaking at a press briefing in Geneva, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: “It took 67 days from the first reported case to reach 100,000 cases, 11 days for the second 100,000 cases, and just four days for the third 100,000 cases.”

He said he would address G20 heads of state and government this week to ask them to work together to boost production of protective gear."

Seems the UK government are finally planning lockdown on people.

...aaaaand we're in lockdown.

Dumbasses who couldn't help themselves congregating at tourist spots over the weekend forced Gov's arm.

Stay frosty.

Don't rule out full on helicopter money coming here, then don't be surprised at all the talking heads balking about "how's this going to be paid for" The same talking heads who are fine with bailing out banks repeatedly, multiple rounds of QE, complete rape of savers to prop zombie business/banks with ridiculous "interest rates" Often zero percent and even negative in some jurisdictions, oh and just general "haha money printer go brrrr" Shenanigans

I'm crazy busy at work, everyone buying dog food while they can

going to build a barricade across the gate tomorrow so customers have to wait outside to be served

I think we were safe before with customer standing in the yard in the fresh air... but apparently trading standards are going around with police backup bollocking shops etc.

How come 'home / hardware shops' can stay open - yet we're not allowed to shop in them?  :dunno:

If you folks think UK was confusing (and now in your full lockdown) Australia is just a mess.

They have been running this strange staggered shut down WHICH IS NOT WORKING.

Firstly the globally adopted "Self distancing" is a complete disaster. In every country the governments have it meaning differently and it is a new term so for many people, especially less educated it just a bit stupid to introduce a new term at times like this.
So in Australia it was 1.5 mete's and now it is 2metres with some very confusing amount of people in square meter setup.

Advise up to last week was to work from home as much as possible with social distancing and not much else really. Then the first screw up where they let people off a ferry that had quite a few people infected and that caused a massive spike in cases. Then Friday when it was like 36 degrees Bondi Beach was PACKED with people. It was crazy and that sparked anger and further stages of lock down.

From Sunday cafe's, gyms and things which were still open got closed mid day Monday, but cases are still getting worse so they "Announced more measures" which are bizzare....

- First up, food courts were still operating, some loop hole so now they can only do take away too
[/size]- Funerals being limited to 10 people and weddings to five people in all states and territories.
- Businesses, including beauty, tanning and nail salons, galleries and museums, will be forced to close from midnight on Wednesday.

- BUT hairdressers can stay open as long as appointments are 30 minutes or less and social distancing measures are in place
- Advise to stay at home but if you need to go to work you can do

Food delivery services are allowed to operate

Not working through so we will be on a full lock down at some point.

New Zealand where my family is though is in a FULL Lockdown, and literally is..

- Stay at home
- No travel, roads will be closed and enforced by the police
- Can go supermarkets only
- Certain trade allowed to operate
- No delivery services for food allow to run
And a host of other restrictions - FOR 4 WEEKS!
- Roads closed
- Eveyt

In Trump world...

Seen all the money he is loosing and his figures going down so its "Just the flu" again all of a sudden and he wants people going back to work and just take a combo of drugs and you will be fine.

Not the person you want running your country in a time like now, he is a complete nutter.

Trump has also tried to secure his own vaccine deals so his cronies the only ones alllowed to supply the vaccine and ignored WHO offers of aid so he can peddle his medical supplies from family run enterprises. Absolute sub-human scum. I hope he dies of pneumonia.

It's the same everywhere, because in essence regardless of place of birth, race or religion, everyone are self-serving idiots.

My present understanding of the law is that people are allowed to collect at food places. Knighty's technically counts as that as they sell dog food but people collecting at the door is safer than letting them in.

People can still mail order stuff. Shops that sell clothes and other non essential items are legally closed.

The bigger issue is people gathering in crowds, There are videos of Italian mayors and police shouting at just a couple of people standing in the street. Needs to be police moving them on here too.

I resent that, *NEARLY EVERYONE*.

Last time I was out was Friday collecting medication from chemist.

I seen:

- People posting pics on instagram in local area having breakfast from places that should only be serving take away.
- Social media influences's still trying to promote the stuff they need to promote, going to beaches and outside etc (Especially in the states) doing photo shoots when they should be staying at home.
- A gym open and also posting on instagram they had people working out yesterday morning locally.
- People using the no work/work from home to have parties and people over in the week. Someone I kind of know and follow each other on instagram posted a picture of like 30 people at someones house the other day drinking!

The reason the spread is happening despite the fact it is 2020 are:

1. The governments Just not set to handle this stuff AGAIN and not learned lessons from SARS or Swine Flu.
2. The governments of the world have been too concerned with the finances rather then lives/curbing the issue.
3. People are idiots, to many idiots out there - You can not trust people to do the right thing.

Not all the world though. Asia generally has handled this the correct way, with proper policing of quarantine and isolation, surveillance, monitoring, etc. South Korea especially has handled this fantastically, even tracking and hunting down the liars that say they are clean or not going out spreading it. Nothing draconian, just keeping track from day 1 and ensuring it is not allowed to run riot.

The self-absorbed western world full of hubris could learn a lot from the humility the Asian countries show when an epidemic appears. They learned hard and fast from SARS/MERS.

The main thing is that the people themselves abide and realise they must.

Coughing near police officers and claiming you are infected is a crime.

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/coronavirus-man-charged-coughing-police-095759802.html

The USA seems to be handling a lot of this by state in an ad-hoc method, so while some are being very responsible others are still doing way too little.

Then others are being idiots, tinfoil hat loons or simply giving advice that is dangerous. One advised that people use a hairdryer to heat their noses to kill the virus.

Of course, Fox news' Sean Hannity got in on the act on multiple occasions and the snake oil sellers are trying to make a few fast bucks from useless or even dangerous "cures"

And I am not kidding about the hairdryer.
