Engagement rings

K, my girly wants a ring. The one she likes is 5k a tiffany which I couldnt possibly afford...

Where can I get one like that but under 1.5k or cheaper? It should be possible cos the side stones are only dinky and the centre is pretty small too - gotta be real gold and gotta be proper diamonds.

Pointlessly expensive. All girls seem to think the more expensive the better, youll get better results going to a proper jewellers. Also do a bit of research and weigh up the pros and cons of platinum over white gold, especially when considering the actual wedding band for the future.

Engagement rings are literally pissing away good money, see if you can get her  a nice one put together by a real jeweller (think Birminghams jewellery quarter) using a seperately purchased stone of good quality. Dont go high street unless you only want to spend a few hundred - you will be ripped off.

Remember, once youve bought it, its not even worth 1/4 of what you paid for it. Its worse than buying a new car. Beware.

Tiffany charge lots more for the same ring.
Its like buying your PC from PC World instead of Dell or Amazon. Same product, bigger markup.

I got my fiance hers from a local company because they had near enough the same ring, but it was £800 rather than the £3000 tifanny wanted for near enough the same thing.  Avoid any of the Big Names to be fair, they tend to load the costs, while not actually supplying stuff any better than anyone else.  Example being I just picked up a Zirconium band for my wedding ring, and it was £150.  H Samuel had exactly the same ring in, form the same company for £300.

Its basically an area of Birmingham where there are a multitude of real jewellers, jewelsmiths that are a load more reliable a place to shop than going to Ernest Jones and the like on the High Street. If you do some research into what youre buying you can buy a diamond sperately, then have a band picked out and have the two mated by the jeweller for significantly less money than even buying an off the shelf from a High Street shop. Its worth the effort if you are going to actually spend a lot of money. Its also far more personal.

It might make a good day out for you and the future Mrs spud ;)

If you add an n to fiance you get finance.

Nuff said.

Failing that, whats wrong with a lifetime supply of hula hoops. You can even let her pick the flavour.
