I did have reservations that it would get old very quickly but its just got better and better and Ive found it being indispensible. Cant wait to see what they add to it and the third party apps that arrive.

Indispensible? Oxygen is indispensible, not an ipod

Oxygen can be dispensed quite easily from a cylinder... :D

I used an iphone the other day. It was really cool. After a minute though Id had my fun.

A bloke in the pub said he was thinking about getting one.

The whole pub laughed and he went home.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

I still think my iphone is awesome, admittedly it did get a bit boring, hence me jailbreaking it. But since then its awesome again, about 2-3 new apps every day. Either little fun things (solitaire, NES emu, TTR) or useful things (Email tools, BSD subsystem, SSH). Really cool.

Maybe I just dont pay enough attention but Ive not heard of a booming hackscene on other mobile devices such as windows mobile, Palm or Symbian?

Bit gutted about the rumours of a 3g one coming out in May.. but I wouldnt of been able to afford it anyway (iphone was a birthday present for me).

edit: after writing this i checked engadget and read this:

"Now that the Zune has upped the ante by including WiFi syncing out of the box, it looks like owners of other devices are starting to rig up solutions of their own -- and the iPhone setup developed by eddanx seems to come closest to the ease of the Zune. The system relies on the WinAmp plugin ml_ipod, which supports syncing to shared folders, and requires a jailbroken iPhone and a little SSH / SFTP softshoe. Of course, by giving up iTunes, you give up contact, calendar, movie, and phone syncing as well, but who cares -- youre wireless now, baby. Check the read link for the full instructions."

i guess you have to weigh up the options imo.

One of my friends is working on a solar screen (behind the screen is a solar charger) for the iphone, its quite interesting seeing the dev sketches :)

you dont NEED a hackscene for an open device!

The level of software available for symbian and WM is maybe 1,000,000 times greater than for the iphone.

Wireless synch? Wow - Windows mobile has had that since - what - when wireless CF cards were invented?

This is true lol.  :)

It wasnt me who voted you one star btw, was just wondering who did as its a seemingly innocent post.

I was really only curious to see if it was because someone noticed your mates design wouldnt work or if it was just a random dig at you. Shame we dont have names and reasons on star ratings.  FYI - the touch screen of the iPhone has a capacitor array/grid behind the screen which is how the touch screen works.  If you put a solar panel behind that grid then the light wont reach it and youd get no power.  If you put it on top of the grid then the cadmium sulphide (or equivalent) in the solar panel would stop the touch screen working all together (solar cells are conductive).

its just a shame designers, etc dont take a couple of first year engineering/science modules - would save them drawing pretty pictures of things that wont work ;)

www.xda-developers.com for starters. As for "hacks" erm... its an open device, fire up Visual Studio and code away.

ah cool, like I say, dont know much about windows mobile never had one.

Cool that its open though, you just know that this apple SDK is gunna be so locked down =/

I cant imagine apple allowing unsigned software, theyll probably just make people sell apps through itunes.
