Be careful if youre pushing yourself quite hard - especially with something like running.

I unfortunately screwed my knee up this way - running quite hard/fast for an hour or so about 3/4 times a week and more training at weekends - suffered a patella tendon injury and havent fully recovered from it two years on. I was doing a lot of running, on tarmac and running in boots/carrying weight on weekends with the TA. Ive now had to leave the TA as the course I was doing essentially involved running up mountains carrying lots of weight and cant really be completed with a screwed up knee.

If youre going to run regularly then go to a proper running shop, get them to watch how you run and get them to select some pairs of trainers within your budget accordingly. Dont just use the normal regular trainers you bought from JD sports or whatever simply because they fit - if it turns out that you overpronate or whatever then you need to get shoes that are designed for that. Try to avoid running on tarmac where possible - if you go running in a park dont run along the footpaths - run on the grass next to them.

What difference does running on tarmac make, surely a smooth flat surface is better? Or is it because its harder than soft ground?

3 times week and that keeps me able to eat all the junk I choose and do abit of binge drinking on the weekend and keep me nice and trim with minimal stifness or doms.

I dont feel what Im doing is pushing it.
I used to be incredibly fit, and I think my body still has memory of this.  I dont often feel sore the next day.

I guarantee if you two trained with me you will be very stiff in the gym, and extremely sore the next day.

Soopah I know you dont feel like youre pushing it, but some times its better to recieve than give, and dont worry about not feeling incredibly fit now, youre still as sexy as youve always been.

Smooth flat surface is faster but will cause greater impact - more wear & tear on your joints more potential for problems....
