It was trying to get the programs to find the original locations on my hard drives so I didn't have to reconfirgure everything. I also had issues with port numbers and trying to access the webpages for sonarr, sabnzbd and couchpotato.

Tried it a couple of times in the past and I couldn't get it doing everything I liked so I gave up. I need the server working without much downtime because we use it loads and so do the kids.

Ports and host directory mapping are a bit convoluted so I'm not surprised you had some issues. I'm sure it can work well for someone starting clean with it but I'm not surprised you gave up.

Hey Clock'd, nice guide. I actually set up an unRaid server the other week and absolutely love the product. I'm afraid the old MicroServer didn't survive the build though!

Thankfully most of the guide still applies to the latest versions of unRAID, it really is a great little product now, well worth the money I paid for a Pro license. With the expanding HDD capacities available now I don't think I'll even need a second microserver like I thought I might.

I wanted to use unRaid for Plex & VMs as well as all the media automation so the MicroServer had to go... such a shame as it served me well for 5 years!

I had a AMD 8350 kicking about and few other pieces, threw more money at it than I should of but have ended up with:

CPU: AMD 8350 (8x4Ghz)
RAM: 24GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Mobo: Sabertooth 990FX 2.0
Cache: 240 & 120GB Kington SSDs
Parity: 8TB Seagate V2 Archive Drive
Pool: 8TB Seagate V2 Archive Drive & 4x 2TB Samsung F3(?)

Docker Apps:
CouchPotato
Deluge via VPN
Plex
SabNZB via VPN
Sonarr
Dolpin
DuckDNS
PlexRequests

and a couple VM's that I'm playing with at the moment.

Is the microsever powerful enough for something like Plex on its own?

Only if it doesn't need to transcode anything. Soon as you need to transcode (which I do as Im using chromecasts) it needs much better CPU
