waterproof/outside screen?
on: October 01, 2022, 17:48:28 PM
I've got homeassistant up and running monitoring freezer temperatures

LED bulbs changing colours as a warning.... but I'd like to add a few screens displaying the temperatures

in the office and tea room I can just use any old cheap pc, outside is a bit more tricky

anyone have any ideas?  only needs to display a simple web page... but needs to be waterproof....

I could mount something inside a box... but then I'd need to worry about airflow?

I'm pretty sure you can get waterpoof cases for tablets, if its just a webpage you're interested in then a cheap old POS tablet and a waterproof case won't set you back much at all. At worst you might need to cut a hole to duct tape a charger cable to it.

thinking about a tablet, they put out so little heat I could probably get away with sealing one inside a box?

Absolutely, you'd have no problem. My boy's Kindle Kids is surrounded with thick rubbery plastic and he watches YT on it all day, never overheats.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115478883292 sorted :-)

I've got some POE to usb adapters to charge things from the poe network... might just use that to charge it :-)
