Star Trek: TNG remastered for Blu-Ray

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only TNG nerd on here, but I was surprised after searching to not find a thread about the new remastered BD release of every season of The Next Generation, starting later this year with Season 1 and a predicted season release every three to four months.

I am at pant-wetting levels of anticipation, even if I have to spend £300+ buying every season at full whack-price to get my hands on them right away!

More info on the 'taster' BD that's just being made available:

Saw this a couple of weeks ago and my word what an improvement!  So glad I haven't gone and bought them all on DVD yet now if only I can find the money for these, they won't be cheap!

And just think what might happen with DS9 & Voyager.  Ages since I've watched the entire lot all the way through hmmm...

Apparently back in the day as it was there was none of this green screen fangled coolness. Their displays, tablets and things etc were all video overlays etc. Modals and cuts galore.
They have had to completely redo much of it all digitally and in a lot of case just use things from later star trek shows to replace interfaces or update them. This is why its taken so long for it to come out.
There are some scenes, especially in the first season where they could not find a high definition real and they have had to digitally upscale and improve them BUT apparently if you can notice. They do say this is only the odd one though.

I am a fan too Nige. There were a lot more gay episodes and love story and social crap for my liking but TNG was awesome. I loved how the bad acting from season one (Especially from Riker and Troy) improved through the seasons. (Bar that dumb doctor replacement who was UTTER sh*tE! Such a bad actress)

Looks like they have really put the love in this. It will cost an arm and a leg for sure though.

Ooh, Forgot to add a topic of discussion.
Wonder how the makeup for aliens will hold out and how much digital touch up's they will have had to done. Back then the makeup and budgets were not as high as today, no HD out there and has been shown with some of the star wars stuff you can see the extra joins and seals and costume glitches which had to be fixed up.

I think its going to be pretty spectacular overall. You mention the display overlays etc as having to be redone along with phasers and other digital effects, which is a good thing, but actually most of the flybys and other areas were done as models and so look fantastic as they have been restored straight from the original film (unlike a lot of recent series where they only have used CGI and it really shows when put into HD). Character effects should look pretty good too; I'm not expecting miracles from seasons 1 & 2 as you mention they were quite weak anyway (getting into it), but seasons 3 onwards get better and better with only a few rough episodes each. By season 5/6 they had really got their shiz together on effects too.

The thing I am most curious to see is if they will tweak Geordie's eyes so you don't see his contact lenses

And Deanna Troi

Have you seen her in 'terminal error' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0283542/ <- if not watch it sometime, it's so so bad, it's hilarious :muttley:

I have not, I'm guessing it was STV and didn't hit the cinemas. I'll keep an eye out for it ;D

Really nice :) just had a skip through and it looks great. Some of the reviews are hilarious, people moaning that a tv show from the late 80s isn't in widescreen

Bloody idiots. They either have to lop part of the top and bottom of the picture off to make it widescreen or go back to the mattes and reframe every scene, and it would add nothing in most shots because it wasn't filmed with the intention of being widescreen

They are supposed to be remastering her breasts in DDDD size and 3D vision. Expect to be permanently blinded :ptu:

Unfortunately I didn't find the first series that good. It improved considerably later but never to the extent that it replaced the original as the best.

TNG did need a few seasons to improve, but when it did it became more watchable than the ham that could be TOS. Some TOS episodes are great and fondly remembered but many TNG episodes are exceptional.
