Being rebooted by firaxis, and is a straight up 100% strategy game, could well be ace

Read this last night on Rock Paper Shotgun, am somewhat happy to say the least! The original was one of my favourite games and I've played some of the recent clones but none really stack up to the original hopefully this will, can't wait.
-
I never got to play the original - I was one of those who's radar it somehow skipped under - but I've seen it plenty of times and watched people playing on Youtube, so if the new game is even half as good as the original classic it should be a winning formula.

The entire UFO/Xcom pack is £3.05 on steam at the mo, worth a punt just to have a quick play. I did buy it ages ago but never played via steam so no idea what they run like, they'd be perfect to play on a lunch hour at work but I can't get steam to work in here :'(

Been playing through the UFO games, well, I was till I got skyrim for Xmas. I like Thelma's it's like a tactical rts, but let's me pause to plan my moves. I've never been able to multitask well enough to get into normal rts type games, always preferred turn based or the UFO system...

I used to have this game when I was young but could never get into it I just kept dying all the time.
After watching a few vids on youtube I might give it a go.

Hands down favourite game of all time. Half Life was close but this baby takes the title. Spent more hours than I care to recall, at silly-oclock in the morning, planning my next move and aiming Blaster Launchers into random buildings to try and find the last little git on a mission! The very definition of EPIC!

That was great fun, trying to find the last alien and wandering around a corner to run out of action points whilst staring down the barrel of a gun, much easier just to blast the little feckers into orbit instead :D

Tut tut tut.... thats what the reserved move buttons were for!

Best game EVER!
I was playing the freeware version called UFO: Alien Invasion (http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/News) on my netbook about a year ago to get another fix of it!

I'm getting a bit deflated reading about some of the changes coming to it (mainly, it seems, to cater for console users) which is a sad thing. But who knows, maybe it can live up to the hype and hope of many.
-
The console port doesn't suprise me its where the money is these days as long and as long as it means it gets made I'll live with that. There are a few changes but its probably a bit too early to say if they'll make or break it, just hope its more make and not break, it can't be that hard, can it...

Not as I read them. They are modern day lessons learned, how you play today changes. I love XCOM but you also have to not forget all its flaws. Play it again now and you will see them again. Trimming a lot of that stuff out should be better for it.
Making it also playable on a console is also a given really. They sell the most, if your a company only doing PC is a bit daft in this day an age if you want to make money.
-
I have no qualms with that as long as it doesn't weaken the skill and strategy elements involved in the game to make it easy for a wider audience.

Looks good ;D
-
Yeah it does, nice to see you can build your base I was starting to think that it was fixed and you couldn't change it in anyway.
-
I am suitably impressed with how its shaping up now, seems there's going to be some great games out this year :nana:

XCOM: Enemy Unknown "Last Stand" E3 2012 Trailer
Not a valid youtube URL
-
I really want to believe this is going to be good, but I'm unconvinced. Every attempt to remake/improve so far has been sh*t.
-
so.... has anyone played it then?
-
No - but I've heard nothing but great things. Demo is on my Xbox might give it a try later whilst the wife works out
-
Yup, been playing it a bit on and off, Borderlands 2 is taking a bit of time up or I'd be playing it all the time.
Its quite good though, the missions are great but I think its laking a little bit on the geoscape side of things could do with more UFO's to shoot down, but its no biggy.
-
There's a few games at the moment I've been thinking of buying based on impressive reviews/youtube plays but I know for a fact I simply don't have time to play them - sadly this is one of them!
-
I played this and it was good but went to the bottom of the pile, Forza/NFS/Hitman all much better IMO.

Same here. I played through it once and that was it.

Last month before heading south I picked it up for £10 and straight away started a Classic Ironman playthrough... oh the anger, the rage!
Damn good game and playing on Ironman really makes it tense as you really don't want to lose your guys and the lack of saving is painful at times - shame its still buggy this far off release, nothing more infuriating than permanently losing a high ranking solider due to no fault of your own.
