400D
on: August 12, 2007, 22:45:18 PM
Ive just ordered a Canon EOS 400D from Ebay! For £420 I got:

black EOS 400D Class A refurb by Canon in brand new condition (I trust these refurbs - My compact is refurbed and its fantastic! Its been dropped by drunk girls in toilets, thrown about, covered in crap and has just passed its 4k picture mark!)
canon 18-55 lens
the other things you get with the body (battery/strap, etc.)
4gb PQI hi speed CF card
lens cleaning kit
leather carrying bag
little flexible tripod
spare battery
CF card reader

Its shipped from Manchester too (no import tax) comes with a 90 day canon warantee and is from a seller with over 300k feedback!

Should be here by Tuesday. Any tips for getting used to my first dSLR? Ive only ever used my friends 350D for about 10 minutes - My only dSLR experience!

The 400Ds are nice cameras, not particularly fond of the lenses though, build quality isnt good and reproduction is a bit off too.

If you want a cheap end additional lens then one magazine rated the Tamron di-ii 55-200mm well above the Canon, Nikon and Pentax equivalents. Its also dirt cheap in comparison so worth a look.

Cancel it. Its a Refurb... You only have 90days Warranty or somthing sh*t like that.

By the one from Digital Rev in Hong Kong instead.

I done the samething.. ordered a refurb. Cancelled it as soon as I noticed & ordered elswhere

Here you go :-

I assume you used the Buy it Now from the seller 1st time around?
As it was a BIN & not an auction you have the right to cancel under the distance selling act.

delivered within 3 or 4 days + no Import Duty.. if you do get charged, they will refund you :-D

90 days warranty is more than the zero warranty you will get importing from HK ;)

NOpe, the HK one comes with a 1year international warranty :-D

Its may be a 3rd party cover - www.mackcam.com

not only that, but ive read plenty of posts on other forums where canon have happily fixed cameras out of warranty bought abroad.

Sorry mate, but Im just going to go for this one :) Ive had refurbd cameras in the past and theyve been fantastic. If I find anything wrong with it I can send it back.

(I was aware its a refurb when I bought it - Aslong as refurbs are done by the manufacturer and done well, then its just like a brand new camera)

might turn up to be a rebel xti (US version)

I got one a month ago from (Id guess) the same people - though I just went for the camera + 4gb memory card for 390 quid IIRC

As for the refurbished bit - plenty of people think these can sometimes be better than buying new - sort of makes sense - camera straight of the production line prob have a few minor checks then are sent a way - refurbs are thoroughly checked by an engineer to ensure they are the same standard as new - youre pretty much going to get a decent camera.

Good luck. I would personally prefer to buy brand new kit for the same money, than somthing that had a fault thats been fixed, but may yet have a 2nd fault.

they dont all have to have been faulty - some of them could be ex display models or simply returns.

Yeah, as right as you are the fact its coming from Hong Kong really put me off from there. And that I *may* have a load of import tax to pay for out of my own money, then hassle on claiming it back - Its money I dont have unfortunately.

Id much rather just go for something that I know is going to get to me, problem free :) Ive there *is* any problems with the refurbd camera Im sure they will show themselves before the 90 day warantee runs out!

Well, it arrived today!! And its fantastic :D The pictures are just so higher quality - Alot more depth and naturalness in the colours and alot crisper than my compact.

Having a load of fun so far, except they gave me an american 2 prong charger :(

Overall very happy - Build quality is great too. Feels really sturdy and like it could take a beating.

Now to save up for my next lens!

^^^^

Like I said before....

I reckon they deserve some negative feedback for that - I emailed them when I got mine and they sent me a US/UK adapter even though Ive already got one - was more out of principle really - if theyve got the cheek to advertise something as a UK model and it isnt then they can sort out an adapter - I was tempted to send the whole lot back but it was a good deal and the US and UK models are exactly the same.
