I still don't really rate using EVFs as you might as well be looking at the back of the bigger and higher resolution LCD screen...

An EVF would be fine, I know they're not great but I just find a take a better picture when using them, having the camera against my head makes it more stable and less chance of blur.

Serious:
There is another reason to have a viewfinder, if you take photos outside then the screen can be drowned by natural light, making it point and guess.

I used a Panasonic bridge camera for quite a few years and have had one of their compacts too. They seem good quality and work well.
