Lighthouse ones are a little dark, I believe its St Marys. I had a lucky time there a couple of years back and produced one photo that Im very proud of, never seen anything like it, even professional ones. It was a case of being there at just the right time and knowing what I wanted.

Uploaded it again

Remember not to be frightened when taking pics with a digital camera, take loads of them and sort out the best later. Get at least a pair of 1GB cards for your camera so you have plenty of room. Also dont be afraid to discard those that dont work, one has a real problem.

I have over five hundred, all taken over a period of under an hour, of waves hitting the sea wall at Tynemouth. I put up about four of them, cut down. Had to put up full size as some people wanted one as wallpaper.

I only have an aged 1.3MP camera myself.

I want a better camera in the future, but for now Im not buying anything like that.

For basic use as a web camera a 1.3mp is adequate, for anything more than snaps though its a bit short. Its entirely adequate for just trying things out too.

You should be able to buy a reasonable compact for under a hundred squid anyway if you decide to go large later on. I went for the best camera available for the price when I bought My DMC-FZ20 and, TBH, I still think I made the best choice available at the time. Now I might be more tempted by an SLR but mainly for low light photography.

What would be nice is a medium format camera with a cheap digital conversion kit. They could easily find a cheap way to print the detector onto a plastic or glass slide. I havent used the format in ages but it would be an exceptional choice for low light and studio work.
