Yeah, I figured it would have something to do with the glass, didnt think temp would be a factor though!

I could probably fairly safely figure it out at uni if I was based there. No doubt asking one of the lecturers theyd know what glasswhere is made of what, and wed be able to match them up then.

Still not managed and proper shots, its too damn light at the moment, that and my faux gorrilla pod never turned up. Still intending to enter tho, this Saturday has photo comp written all over it.

@Bear - Nice shots, but the second one Id crop the bottom inch or so to get rid of the cars and maybe tweak it so that the house is in black silhouette, but good shots.

Yes I was going to but for now I have done nothing at all but resizing :)

Right in the spirit of the monthly subject i tried something iv never tried before.. light painting.

Now its my first attempt and i wont have time to try again so hopefully my shot will be worthy.

Ill do a little write up.

Had to wait for the place to get dark, so was gone 11pm when i started, not really as dark as id like but was as good as it was going to get.

So the scene with the standard pop up flash:

Now for the dark bit, quite fiddly as im not 100% familiar with the camera controls so was fumbling a bit but set manual focus, closed the apature down and set for a long exposure.

Now i add the torch!

This is my submitted photo for the competition:

With more time and space i think this could look pretty sweet. I could use a better torch as well, the massive maglite i used was spilling light everywhere :(

Yep. Had my order partially delivered so ive got 10 LED torches but really need something to keep the camera steady.

@BinaryShadow Very nice indeed, youve got the exposure just right.

It does suffer a bit from ambient lighting. If you did it in proper darkness (in a garage?) with smaller torches you could get away with shining one from the front and one from the back etc?

You were trying to do something like this?:

(fairly dark room but not pitch black, ultra bright dive torch, and something like 1:2000 shutter speed I think :D

The main thing is, has it got you wanting to experiment some more? :D

Something like that yeah, shutter speed is way too high though, need to play the light over the suject so was running 20-30 second exposures.

It would be better if it was darker however most of the light is spill from the torch, next time ill stick a paper shroud on it to focus the light better.

Yeah its turned out quite well for a first attempt so ill be experimenting some more for sure.

well since everyone seems to be experimenting with low light photography I though Id give it a go too. Walking back from a gig in the early hours of Friday morning and decided to do an impromptu drunk photo shoot under a street light with my flatmate. So here is my attempt at portraits using rather low amounts of ambient light...

I like those a lot actually. It makes me wonder, has your flatmate done modelling before? Question is which are you going to enter? 2 and 3 look more professional, but I think #1 has something more "raw" about it, making you wonder just what she is looking at, whether its something good, or bad.

I think Ill enter the second one... I was very happy with how they turned out. Flatmate is a singer though has done modeling work in the past so Id say the first one is good mostly thanks to her being able to pose well.

There really wasnt much light - the pics were taken with the ISO cranked up to 1600 and the aperture wide open which gave the really shallow depth of field in the 2nd one. Not done any post processing aside from cropping the first one.

Its just a canon 400D (or actually the US version which I bought refurbished off e-bay about a year ago) - had been intending to use if for a while but never got round to it until the last couple of weeks - so far have messed around with a fish eye adapter at a friends house, taken pics at two of my flatmates gigs and then these few quick photos on the way home...

and now for something completely different.

OK, I couldnt be arsed to go and do something incredible, but I guess that does for Experimental ;)

And the image I should have entered last time but the forums hacked it down to insignificant. Finally sorted out the password for my photobucket account :)
