Deer = hooligans.
They are, for want of a better term...the chavs of the forest...
My reasoning? One day whilst out collected and resetting pitfall traps on a heathland with enclosures designed to keep out either cattle/deer, or everything (cattle and deer and rabbits etc) I bent down to pick up one of the pitfall traps in the everything enclosure...and it was full of deer piss.
Now, they me explain this. These enclosures were about "car size" IE, maybe 2m wide by 4 or 5m long. They have barbed wire with chickenwire inbetween up to waist height. The size of these things mean that if you were to run and jump up and over, you would probably hit the other sides barbed wire. Yet a do this a deer did (say that 10 times really fast), pausing to pee in a small plastic cup, before jumping out.
Other traps were trampled and kicked out and all sorts :/
So, I rest my case...they are hooligans....hooligans with the most bizarre high pitch yelp thing that makes you jump when your walking down a track path on your own in the middle of no where with nothing in sight...
Nice photos though!

V nice indeed. Do you carry more than one lens with you or are you just really close? (I read you had a 400D)

Thanks for the comments.
Lens, well the first and last were taken with a 10-20 Sigma wide angle. The 2nd and 3rd were taken with a budget zoom lens, Sigma 70-300 APO DG. Camera of choice is a Nikon D40, which I find a real pleasure to use.

rofl never thought Id see a rant against deer.

Deer = hooligans.
Totally true! a deer vandalised the front of one of my cars, very annoying indeed.

How fast were you driving when you hit it? ;)

i have no idea, hard on the brakes from 40 about 10 feet from hitting it so will have been under 40 for sure, was on a NSL road so lucky i wasnt screaming through at 60.. not that you could get round the blind bend at that speed.

I so badly wanted it to move, but then when it did, the first one moved over too .... grrr!!! Felt it wrong to clone him into place.

really good pics, nicely done MrT!
I have fancied a Sigma 10-20 for a while and shots like that first one just tempt me more!

Thanks Mongoose!
The Sigma 10-20 is such a great lens, my fave tbh. Just want to get out more to take some photos.
Really need to find a photo buddy in Brissle who is up for going out. Can be a bit boring on your own, plus I feel safer with a mate.

I like the 1st shot, its got depth and a big contrast in colour between the back and foreground and still getting the deer noticing youre there.
