Title: Ebay is evil.
Post by: M3ta7h3ad on May 07, 2006, 20:16:47 PM
Just setup some bids on this baby...

Heres the bit of bumpf thats needed...

Quote
The DCR-1850PRO converts the FinePix S5000 lens to 685mm (35mm film equiv.) focal length when attached at the most telephoto position

Yes yes... thats right... 685mm zoomage! :D

That would be sort of like this baby:

600mm Canon Lens

Granted... it doesnt have image stabilisation, and I think AF would struggle at lowlight at that length (just take a torch to light the target whilst focusing), but YEAAAAAAAA... 685mm babeh!! :D

That isnt the top one either :) there are better ones.

Oh and good thing about it, I keep my cameras F3.2 :) granted larger sensor on an SLR means itd outperform that F3.2 with an F4 or F5 but my ickle babeh will get close to it :) (its F3.2 at full tele before serious spouts of lumix stats :P).

Just hope I get it now :)

oh yeah... also put in a bid for one of these too..

DCR-720

little cheaper :) its a wideangle lens, will take my camera to a 27mm at 35mm equiv.

Should be good if I get it before the end of the month for some proper landscape shots :D

Nice, if you win. There are 1.4X ones for the Panasonic Lumixes that give about 600mm equivalent but you should be able to get a suitable X2 to shove it as far as 864mm  :P

Oh noes, why did I look? :o

lol :) I know that a 2.2x one (taking it to er.. heck.. probably 800mm) exists for the S5000.

Ah.. just checked.

Quote
DCR-2020PRO lens extends the focal length of FinePix S5000 camera lens to over 810mm

Looks a beast on the camera too :D lol, proper big boy :D

but it costs a hell of a lot more for that extra few mm :)

also... would advise against the opteka telephoto lens, they are poorly made, result in heavy heavy CA at all F stops. opteka wide angles however are alright :)

Opteka lenses are the ones you see labeled as "high definition made for digital lens" or similar :)

*NOT* but it can be done!  :)

Actually virtually any camera could do that with the right fitting, although its probably easiest with a webcam.

oh indeed it can be done, I hope to try just that with my Dads 8" reflector next time I go home since we have the T2-Pentax K adaptor which allows us to attach a camera instead of an eyepiece.

Well I only have the 685mm one im saving up for the 800+mm one :)

Holding the thing steady shouldnt be a problem. Just use a tripod.

Thats the thing... I bought this wideangle mainly because I need the adapter that the seller is supplying with it :D so although I paid £25 for it :D as the tube is £10 I really paid £15 for a lens :D lol quite good :D
Title: Re:Ebay is evil.
Post by: Serious on May 14, 2006, 13:59:32 PM
Seems I can hold it infront of the camera by hand. At low zoom the vignetting is highly obvious when used like this, you just get a circle view in the middle of the picture. You need to get above 10 X to give a clean result but the result looks good enough and the problem might reduce with the proper tube.

8-10 x would be acceptable with some trimming though.

Anyone with an SLR and a suitable lens could also use this. combined with a 300mm it would give a very creditable 600mm amature lens. Of course you could also put another 2X converter between the camera and lens resulting in 1,200mm but I think that would be excessive.

Need to get an adaptor tube though :(

The DCR-2020pro is only meant to be used at MAX telephoto. So that would be 10x on my fuji :)

Do you already have an adapter tube where your filters can screw on?

If so just buy a whatever mm to 49mm stepdown ring and shove that on it.

Unfortunately I dont have an adaptor tube, the only one I have is a skylight and that screws into a thread in the lens hood :(

yeah but thats what I mean.

With my fuji I can unscrew that lens hood so I call it an adapter tube :). But all you need is a stepdown ring to fit your lenshood to your lens. It screws in just like your filter.

All you need to make sure is that at full zoom your camera lens doesnt hit the other lens in front of it, which... if you can fit a filter on it anyway, means it wont. So just buy a stepdown ring of the right dimensions. :)

Its a rare thing, officially its a filter adaptor for the panasonic FZ10/FZ20 looks like this one but its no longer listed on the jessops website.

http://www.jessops-store.com/Store/s29087/0/Digital-Lens-Adapters--and--Protectors/Raynox/Adapter-Ring-For-Fuji-Finepix-S5000/details.aspx?&IsSearch=y&pageindex=1&comp=y

You dont need one though.

I already have one of those adapters you just linked to.

I have to remove the adapter tube I currently have in my camera (what you call a lens hood on yours) and replace it with the raynox one to fit it but all you need or all I really need is a 55mm to 49mm stepdown ring.

I would still need a 62-72mm step up ring :(
Title: Re:Ebay is evil.
Post by: M3ta7h3ad on May 18, 2006, 23:23:32 PM
What mm size filters do you fit to your camera?

You take that size, you shove a - in it... then you shove the size of the rear thread of the lens (mines 49mm) on the other side of the - sign

You then shove "stepdown ring" after it :) and you google.

Seriously, with the lens on the front regardless of the metal tube you get, my lens has like 4 or 5 threads on it... not enough for me to trust it for long periods of time without my hand supporting it. Its why that rubber ring is there :).

Tripoded... sure just leave it, as your not swinging it around, but when im handheld my hand is there... holding the lens as well as the camera.

You have to use part of the lens hood and its got a 72mm fitting. The proper one is supposed to be shorter and a better fit. Its not like I absolutely need it tomorrow and if Jessops manage to get me the proper one then the problem will be solved.

The camera has a special reverse thread on its outside that the filter or adaptor screws onto, the lens expands beyond this almost an inch so you need an adaptor tube to extend it to beyond this but not too far or you end up with even worse vignetting

I have tried it at the length of the lens hood filter and I would get significantly more vignetting :(

Mines working well as shown on the photies I have put up. Hand holding 950mm of lens is difficult even with a promonopod I bought second hand, have to switch to the eyepiece and hold it against my head. Using a tripod is easy enough though but not as nice to carry, I can use the monopod as a walking stick :D

Lens is supprisingly light and the performance adequate, I showed it to a wildlife photographer who was bragging about his stuff and fitting that won the day for me :)

As I said its very difficult running with 950mm of lens when a lions after your butt

Nearly forgot, it fits my brothers new Canon lens too :)

How are you getting on with the two new lenses?

To be honest due to me working whatever overtime I can at the moment, and with my computer hard drive dying and my laptop too crap to deal with raw conversions (10minutes for 1 picture does not make for fun photoediting :D) I havent really bothered getting out there and taking some pictures :).

I have taken test pics and the lenses are top notch, the wide angle gives a slight fisheyed look to things when close up however works well on landscapes. Think Id have slight issues if I tried a pano with it on but then I can just take more photos to compensate :).

The tele is very impressive zoomwise. Turns a half church tower photo, into a "segment" of a window on the top :D lol. but again... not made any use of it really, only usable at full telephoto naturally as its meant to be used that way, but yeah no barrel distortion, and worth every bit of dosh :D

Glad I bought them now, definately adds to my arsenal. Also I dont feel such a poor kid when put next to a 350D, the sheer glass area on the telephoto puts my mates teles to shame :D along with the focal lengths. 300mm focal length zoom... PFFFFT! :D 600+ BABY!! :D lol
