Just went out in the garden, not too much stuff around - summer should be better:

How insanely close was he getting? Pretty close id imagine, similiar to yours id say? maybe a bit closer.

But you need that sort of lens to get the overall quality of the close shots. Went to a bird hide on sat, and my 200mm just doesnt have the reach, will need a 1.4 or ...ick, 2.0 extender, which I dont really want to do as you lose image quality, especially with the 2.0, so Ill probably go for the 1.4 (£249)

Snellgrove... quite seriously.

Consider selling prints.

Failing that get into Stock photography, and sell them through http://www.istockphoto.com or similar.

Seriously mate, it cant just be the gear thats giving these shots professional kinda quality. Youve got a wee bit of talent there, taking after rg-Tom I thinks :D

 I may.. I dunno, quite a few have said things like that but I quite like it as a hobby. work hard, play hard eh. :)

but I suppose theres no pressure, if you sell via istockphoto? just upload and wait, is it and they take X for the service?

As to whether it is kit, or talent.. bit of both id say. but the kit is in place now..  the worst bit of the camera is the bloke behind it - thing with photography, its a constant learning experience! and with practise, you can only get better huh 8) The only thing I may buy for the camera in the coming months would be a filter or two, but mostly the 1.4 extender for the big lens, to give it a bit more reach for far-away stuff. Ill probably only do this if I need it, you know. I dont think Ill spend that much time taking pictures of birds that are miles away, so it may not be something that is worth it.

I think if I got into taking pictures of birds, id shell out on a 400mm prime or something - I may be wrong, but I dont think they stupidly expensive.

Just spent the time since my last post, until now to read about it.

Seems a good idea, but a lot of effort, for example:

if people are included in your image, you need to send them a bit of paper, showing them that the person in there has your permission. even if its yourself  if the person is under 18, you need parents permission.

And you cant include anything that has a copyright on it (obviously) but I think its pretty strict (again, fair enough - they would be slammed as they are selling copyrighted stuff I suppose)

I dont know if I would want to add the paperwork to my hobby, might seem a bit chore-like and tedious.

I may look into this sort of thing though, it would be awsome to have my kit paid for, by the pictures I take - if I hated my job, I could possibly get enough drive and determination to do something like this, but I like my job  and am happy there, so photography will more than likely remain a hobby for me. Will definately bear it in mind though.

It also said they dont need any flowers. doh!  and that last one I uploaded wasnt too great, I chopped the top of the flower off when there was bags of room at the bottom! was only messing around though in the garden.
