Lens error on my IXUS900Ti
on: October 07, 2007, 10:49:55 AM
I just tried to start up my Canon IXUS 900Ti and the lens extended then made a funny grinding noise. No it wont move, and the camera just says lens error, please restart camera.

Its under a year old but I cant find my reciept anywhere. I also paid cash so I dont have anything on my card statements.

I can find out the date and time I purchased it because my sister bought a camera at the same time (and has her receipt). Is there any chance Jessops or Canon might repair it in warrenty without the receipt?

I could open it up but that would void my warrenty.

What my best course of action?

Yep, with just the serial number you should be able to get seen to, Ive heard Jessops are fairly good in this regard, although if worst comes to worst at least you can return it to Canon since its less than a year old.

If they took your name and addy there should be no problemo. I have gone back to Currys with an item after eleven months and they found my purchase on their computer.

Legally you do not have to produce a receipt, even if you are given one and there are huge signs up in the shop saying it is required. A judge ruled that they do not legally have to give you one so why should you produce it? Only makes it easier to keep tabs on stuff.

Cool, cheers guys. Looks like a trip back to Cardiff next weekend then!

Might try and give them a ring in the week to gauge their response before making the journey.

Fingers crossed it will be easy :)

You dont have to provide a receipt if you arent fussed on what you get back in return for your product.

For exchanges without receipts it is down to the shop if they wish to honour such things with a "replace like for like" or gift vouchers, or store credit.

They do not have to give cash.

Warranty repairs... no idea, but exchanges and refunds, yes... you dont need one, but dont expect cash in return.
