Haven't really thought about going to try and get some shots but if you do miss out tonight I read somewhere that the Geminids in December have a higher rate of meteors per hour or something like that.

As for settings its probably going to be a bit awkward, I guess once you get yourself setup at your location do a few shots and expose for the sky/stars aiming for maybe 5-10 seconds so you get a nice trail from any meteors (you might need shorter than that as well, just depends how fast the meteors are travelling). You probably want to take a shot exposed for the foreground so you can merge it in later if needs be.  Then just sit and wait and trigger the camera off as soon as you see anything, if you try for long exposures in the hope of getting something your going to end up with lots of shots with nothing in and have to deal with noise and hot pixels.

I'll go and have a look at this tonight, rising in the east at about 23.30 according to sky maps.

I was thinking about going out to have a look but that'll probably be a bit late for me, can't seem to get much past 11 these days, I'll see if I'm still up around then I'll stick my head out for a bit could do with it haven't picked my camera up in over a month!

Not much hope of getting past the light pollution in London. Would love to try some night shots, maybe over Christmas.

These things normally come down to big aperture, wide angle lens and long exposure, with a good bit of luck and positioning. Some modern cameras should do well short exposure but you are reduced to manually setting that.

I didn't bother in the end, got drunk instead. I've heard it was a bit of a let down, though another one should occur in December that should be more frequent...?
