Ive been given a new camera, its a Kodak Easyshare C330, 4MegaPixel.
http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Kodak_EasyShare_C330

Below are some of the pictures I took when I visited Abbotsbury Swannery over the weekend.

All the pictures were taken in 3.1MegaPixel. The 16mb memory was much too small, Ive purchased an 512mb SD card.
These are the original and some extra I havent posted: Full Size images

The pics below have only been reduced in scale using PSP7, no other image editing.

Mother & Babies.

Blackbird sunbathing.

A Cygnet had just poked its head out of the egg, look carefully in the shadow.

Female Swan on her nest looking very proud.

Reed beds change to grass land and provide perfect nesting for small birds.

Observation shed thatched with Reeds from the marsh.

The camera is just one of a range of variables that will affect the output, better equipment can give more flexibility and quality to the output but if you dont have opportunity, good luck and someone with sufficient knowledge to produce then you arent going anywhere. dogbert certainly couldnt have taken those photies later in the year after they had hatched and grown up. It required really good luck for the cygnet breaking out the egg.

Late 80s I walked around the Newcastle hoppins on the town moor at night with a friend, I had a relatively cheap (£120) Praktica BC1 with stock 50mm lens, He had an Olympus auto-everything (Sp, Ap, full auto, manual, 15 or so program options) , except he didnt have a clue and ignored my advice. My photies came out pretty much perfect while his were all black screens.

Why? He left the thing on auto and it tried to fill the town moor with it using the standard 30th of a second shutter speed...

Ive been using Pentax SLRs for several years, this is my first Digital camera.

Composing a good picture isnt difficult if you can imagine youself looking at the scene through a window or frame to help you centre the subject with a balance of forground and distance to give contrast and make it easier to view the subject in context.

This doesnt always work for every picture its a basic approach but most times its usually patience, luck, timing, judgment and a little more luck.

I enjoy photography a lot 8)

good choice :) I can heartily recommend their DSLR efforts when you come to upgrade, my *istDL2 works wonders

great pics of the swans, esp the mother swan with the cygnet halfway though hatching. The kind of shot you only get one go at and you did good.
