Insurance?
on: November 11, 2010, 22:11:25 PM
Im guessing some people here might have a fair bit of expensive kit they take with them out on trips and what not. Im wondering if anyone has any kind of photograhic equipment insurance, or whether general household item insurance covers everything?

Youd have to check whats covered on your individual policy, which considering the cost of all the equipment is worth a 10 minute phonecall.

my house & contents insurance covers me for personal posessions & cash when I go away or if my car got done over, etc.
Its usually an option & people take it by standard.

my contents insurance covers mine, check though because as Egg said its often an option which you may or may not have already. Also the value limit varies by insurance company, you might need to pay a bit extra to push the limit up above your most expensive item. Its usually not expensive though, and well worth having it covered.

Cheers guys. Will have to ask the rents tomorrow about it. Will be interesting to know whether it covers me, if the policy is in their name etc.

With the body and lenses in one bag, if it got stolen its probably ~£2k of kit I guess now which is what has got me wondering. This was all prompted from a laptop going "missing" in my office the other day (turns out it had just been put somewhere secure, but its enough of a kick up the ass!)

if youre not named on the policy it may well not cover your stuff when youre out and about. Well worth checking!

+ you may specifically have to add expensive stuff. Always worth doing + you can give them the SN of your lenses & camera.
