Righteo, ill resize it now.

Errrm, the one of the stream is by the side of Durham river, the one of the rowers is from a bridge on Durham river during a Regatta, and the other is in my living room :D

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality out of a phone camera!

Phone cameras are constantly getting better sensors, 2MB ones should produce acceptable quality for printed snaps 6*4", might even manage 7*5"

Newest ones coming off the production lines are even better, 3MP have been available for a bit and I expect 5 megapixels plus to be coming through from the manufacturers this year

TBH theyd be better sticking to around 3-4 and getting the sensors noise free. On a sensor that size 10MP is going to be very noisy and its more or less impossible to build a lens with that kind of resolving power into something the size of a phone anyway. in a phone camera, anything over about 4MP is a marketing gimick IMO, and the same goes for anything over 6 in a compact.

I would agree with you Mongoose but people wont upgrade to another camera phone just because it has less noise, they often will if it has a lot more megapixels. Manufacturers have a vested interest in giving peeps what they think they want rather than what they need.

Even my Panazonic FZ20 has problems with noise at low light levels dispite its f2.8 lens, the FZ30 has proportionately more problems, even the latest FZ50 has the same problem of small sensor size causing image noise.

I know, its sad but true that those people who look at actual test pictures before picking out a camera are about as rare as those who checked the IPC of the P4 Willamette before believing that 1.5GHz P4 must be better than 1.0 PIII.
