Eagle If you’re going to do any gaming on the PC go for a 27” 30” is just far too big to sit up to your desk and use without the need to turn your head to see from one side of the screen to the other, a bloke I used to play World of Warcraft with got one and ended up having to sell it as constantly having to turn his head was driving him to distraction after a few weeks :D

Another thing to take into account is your need a lot more graphic’s power to run games at such high resolution going from 1920x1200 to 2560x1440 expect your FPS to take quite a hit, you really need SLI/Crossfire to be able to keep all the eye candy turned on (which you will want with such a stunning monitor) and the FPS at a decent rate IMO.

I recently upgraded to a Dell 27" from a 24” that I got in 05, bought from these guys: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320796833713?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3243wt_1265

I've linked them a 100 times on this forum :P http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/

Fair point; I hadn't considered the hit on FPS a larger screen might bring.

30" is out now as I 'mapped out' a 30" monitor in my mind and quickly realised that I'd be turning my head too much.  Now to wait for a 27" IPS at a decent price!  Will my Radeon 6870 handle it?

27" is 1080 or 1200 isnt it, so should be fine.

It's 2560 x 1440

(The 30" DELL ones are the same native resolution but the pixels are bigger on them).

I think your going to need a better GPU unless you play at lower game settings, maybe possibly a Crossfire/SLI setup but your talking about spending a fair whack of money!

From what i found around the net, a 6970 will run most games but not all at max settings e.g. Metro2033 / Crysis type games, 2x 2GB 6950 in Crossfire will work better, also some of the 6950s (Revision 1, reference) can be flashed to run at 6970, i really think your going to need to do a bit of reading or call your specific retailer and ask them for advice (somewhere like Scan who sell high end pre built systems).

I was also going to point out that Hazro do a 27" Pro series monitor for about £430 ish, the general consensus is that warranties for their consumer products are handled with the business side and in-house through the UK (also built in the UK apparently), but the issue is they don't have any warranty information outside of the standard 3 year RTB, no specifics or anything which is a bit amateur for any company.

okeedoke.  I'll shelve the idea until my next full upgrade.  Now't much wrong with a 24" DELL anyhoo!

100Mb/s broadband coming on Tuesday - so not a f**k will be given about screen size!!!

A second 6870 would handle current games fine tbh, I have a pair of 6850’s and they can keep the frame rate pretty reasonable with eye candy at 2560x1440, but when you take into account most likely you would need to upgrade your case and PSU to go crossfire and the 7000 series of cards from AMD hitting early 2012 I don’t think it is the best time to look to do such a upgrade.

Got a pair of Dell 24" screens, 2 of my brother's have Dell screens too, all work perfectly.

Although I wouldn't touch a Dell laptop with a proverbial barge pole.
