Flashes are something totally alien to me, none of that makes sense :D

That's why I just got a cheapo one so I can play around but if I manage to learn enough then I haven't wasted too much money.

I've had it a for a while now and I don't understand half of it either, I think I'm starting to get there with it slowly though.  I've tried reading strobist but never manage to get too far with it but I've picked up stuff as I've gone along, some of its fairly straight forward some not so, maybe one day...

Really nice shot, I've wanted to do something like this, and also play with the 60fps mode on the 7D, and view it in slowmo. What was the water in and how did you create the water drop? I assume you also used a fast multi shot, rather than trying to get it in a well timed single shot?

The easiest way to explain it is to watch Gavin Hoey's video on it:

I just used a plant tray for that one and I've got some that I've yet to go through using a glass baking dish.  You can use anything really I've seen plenty photos of people using wine glasses or mugs, did try a wine glass myself but couldn't get it to work quite as well.  For the drop that one was taken with a plastic bag with a hole in it but I've also been trying a water bottle with a football pump needle in the cap, it works but I'm having a couple of issues with it mostly that there's no air going into the bottle so it just stops dripping after a few seconds.

I've just been shooting a burst you'd struggle to get the drip in shot if you just tried to do a single shot my D7000 can do about 9 shots before the buffer fills up.  Does mean you end up with rather a lot of photos however, from trying it over 3 nights I've got 1500 photos probably half of which having nothing in them so I'll be getting rid of those ones just to free up hard drive space.

And here's another one from the same set, still got lots more to go through, did manage to get a few collisions as well, will get them on here when I get round to editing them.

One of the collisions I managed to get, need to try it again but with a better background, but at least I know now how to get them.

Ok so I've hardly been doing anything photorgraphy related recently, just started to do a few things this last week or so with the ISS flying over quite a bit, managed to get this one night last week.  The bright dot above the ISS light trail is jupiter and I only noticed when I started to edit it the other day but there's also a meteor in the shot as well.

Tried to go and get it again but it was too feint and to low in the sky from where I was trying to photograph it from, I also made a bit of a noob error by focusing at infinity and then wondered why some cranes were out of focus, needless to say I'll not be posting that one any time soon lol.

Wsa tidying up yesterday and found a couple of those bendable USB laptop lights and since it was a while since I'd done anything with my Danbo thought I'd put 2 and 2 together and hopefully get 1, which I did, don't think its brilliant but its a start for this year.

I like it a lot, reminds be of sack boy, and has a feeling of loneliness to it

I've seen sack boy before but didn't know what it was called, now I do might have to get one, Thanks!

I need to do more photos with danbo, cool little thing, so many expresions from something that doesn't have that many moving parts tis awesome.

I've gone and created a blog mainly for any photography related stuff I manage to come up with and hopefully to encourage me to get out a bit more to have stuff to post on it, will be interesting to see how long it lasts lol!

I've been following a guy on twitter https://twitter.com/#!/VirtualAstro who posts interesting astronomy stuff and he said there was a chance the Northern Lights were viewable from this far South so thought I'd go along to the coast to see if I could see them and I could.

Tweeted them at the guy and he retweeted them and they've got over 500 views in the last 20 minutes each, now my most viewed photos on flickr unsuprisingly!
