So I've hardly been doing much this month, too much poxy weather (I hate cloud...) and generally not had as much time to get out and do some photography and the one time I really did, to get a sunrise when I woke up at 6.30 last Sunday, I made a bit of a hash of it.  But I took this one a couple of weeks ago whilst playing around at home and didn't give it too much more thought, was sitting sorting this months photos out at work and noticed it looked alright quick edit later and...

Rainbow! by russellcram, on Flickr

The Olympic Rainbow was in the North East Over the weekend, went to see it Saturday night and it was quite impressive, the 7 high powered lasers could be seen around 7-8 miles away and some people have even said they could see it on the other side of Sunderland which must be over 20 miles away.

I've got some more to edit so there'll be more when I get them done.

Me and Knighty saw this over by the dog track, neither of us knew what it was.

Well now you do, its quite impressive to think it managed to reach as far down as that I think I even heard someone say they saw it the far side of Sunderland as well!

Put another photo of the Angel of the North in the above post and here's a one from last week, I was off work and took a trip up the coast to seahouses.  Bit miffed that I've used quite a shallow DoF so the rope coming out of the knot is out of focus, something to try and remember for next time.

One from Sycamore Gap on Hadrians Wall, more known for being in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.

Kestrel by russellcram, on Flickr

Coming back from Sycamore Gap and there was a Kestrel sitting in a tree just next to the road so I had to stop and take its picture, it even waited around long enough for me to turn the car around and drive back.  Managed about 5 shots before it flew off but don't think that's too bad, its a little soft but then my 400mm lens is especially at f5.6, still £90 off ebay well spent!

Soft? It looks like cut and paste at this size, very sharp I think 8)

Its not too bad, but it has been run through photoshop so there's a little Unsharp mask been done on it, I can't remember how much though.

[snip]

Great shot, she looks surprised, love it. Its also viciously sharp, I had real problems today with sharpness of wildlife, nothing as gloriously sharp as that.

I grabbed one of this athletic little guy today, made me giggle.

A classic example of massive annoyance of my 18-70 stock nikon, not long enough, not fast enough, not sharp enough ... ended up missing a great moment of a squirrel trying to horde away a half coconut.

haha that squirrel shots quite funny, nowt like showing off a little bit and doing things the hard way.

Yeah I'd imagine the 18-70 isn't great for wildlife, you not got something like a 70-300?  If not they're fairly cheap and can produce some decent results and I bet that squirrel thought all its Christmas' had come at once.

Edit: Oh and I've done a colour edit of my sycamore gap photo, dunno which I prefer.
