Trip to Malaysia and full frame goodness

Recently spent a week in Malaysia, primarily to go to a friends wedding but we stayed in a resort that had a nature reserve and Orang-utan rehabilitation centre on site (Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort if you are interested) so hoped to get out and see some wildlife to.

Prior to this trip I bought a slightly old, fairly heavily used but still perfectly good full frame camera body in the shape of a Canon EOS 5d Mk2 to compliment my 7d. I was drawn to a full frame body with the hope that I could use higher ISO with less noise in the images.

A few shots here https://www.flickr.com/gp/12512629@N07/Zv8890 taken straight off the camera, had an amazing time but sadly the haze/smoke made any landscape shots impossible, typically the week I was there had the annual burning in Indonesia going on and ruined the atmosphere around there. The bear cat was taken at night with the ISO wound all the way up so it looks pretty awful but there was no other way, it was moving around so no long exposures possible.

After playing with the 5d a bit I soon realised that I haven't really been using my 7d as well as I could, totally ignoring the custom functions menu which is pretty silly really as these options unlock some very useful features.

I also just chucked 2 tamron lenses on ebay since they don't work with full frame cameras and got myself a second hand L series lens to replace them, should make for some good images.

Been using a 5D for a while, I remember giving it a lot of thought thinking about how useful the crop factor was, and whether I'd miss that for the kind of photography I mostly do...but I've found I much prefer the low-lightness of full frame now :D
