Tripod Bargain

Not posted in bargains mainly because its a fairly specialist item :)

Hama Star 42 tripod, its a fullsize tripod not a mini one.

Just bought one today from the cardiff argos in queens arcade purely by chance. Great tripod, sure its not as sturdy as some £30 tripods, but offers all of the functions of those. Its extremely similar to the 7dayshop £12 tripod. Same colour legs even. Had it out today with a mate who spent £30 on a jessops tripod (verbold something or other) basically decided while the build quality wasnt fantastic (plastic hinges, wierd extension lock thing), it did the job brilliantly, and was well worth the £10 more so than his £30 thing. For his 30... he got a few metal bits, and no extra functionality.

I bought the 7dayshop one purely for the bargain at the time.
Argos one looks very similar, but if you look close it doesnt look as good.

How come argos are still working in inches and pounds
EDIT: sorry the more expensive one that is., Yours is metric. What gives there then :dunno:

Only difference as the 7Dayshop one is a Hama star 62 and this is a Hama star 42... is that the 62 comes with a spirit level. Which... is a bit pointless when you can always level a photo out using photoshop later :)

between yours and the 7 dayshop one there is quite a difference if you look.

Adjustable feet
Two different handles
Spirit level
Better center adjustable support

The 42 is a lightweight tripod capable of holding 2KG, the 63 is a medium weight one for up to 4KG. The second is stronger and better if you are using a big lens, of course its also heavier too.

If anyone wants one of the tiny mini ones try your local pounland ans see if they have any left...

Mine has adjustable feet.

Handles... wow.. why not just hold it by a leg?!

Spirit levels are gimmicks on low end tripods. Should be able to be done by eye (grid on the fuji series of cameras helps this) or done post processing.

Center adjustable support, only difference I see is the ability to hang a weight from it.

for sub £10 its a bargain considering sub £10 is the land of mini tripods. This isnt a mini tripod.

Serious... I was talking about the 62 not 63.

Also as above... its not a mini tripod... poundland mini-tripods will fall over with the weight of anything bigger than a compact.

7dayshop doest seem to have the Hama 62 listed, only the 63 and 74. Im probably working at a different thing than you though.

Except the Hama, and the 7dayshop one dont look like those images.

my Hama is the same colour as the 7dayshop image.

And my ex work colleagues 7dayshop one had the same feet as this one.

Oh... and you have linked an image to a kodak branded one. Not a Hama Star 42.

Serious: The 7dayshop branded tripod is a Hama 62 just rebranded.

Well my 7dayshop one is EXACTLY the same as above.
The colour is irrelivant

For an extra £2.29 it is way better IMO
should have went for that one.

Im not disputing the greatness of the hama 62, it is a higher model than the hama 42. However It doesnt offer enough over the 42 to be worth that £2.29 + £3.99 delivery (£6.28).

All thats missing on my tripod that yours has is:

1.) adjustable feet = GIMMICK! (how many £100 tripods do you see with adjustable feet, and not stabby ones).
2.) Handle to wind the platform up and down = now that I sort of miss, but mines good enough as a slidy thing.
3.) carry handle - to be honest mine is carried in its box inside a bag, When moving it out of that, I grab the centre tube. No issue there.
4.) Hook for weighting down - Can do the same here by shoving a bag on it. Not worth it.
5.) Spirit level - Gimmick!!! Line it up using your cameras functions or use photoshop to do it.

So out of 5 things If I spent £6.28 extra... and waited 5 days, I would get a handle to crank my platform up and down.

Yeah sure... can see why I should have gone for the 7dayshop one.
