Entertainment & Technology / PBX (phone systems)
« Last post by knighty on September 23, 2017, 22:12:57 PM »
anyone have any experience with pbx systems ?

I fancied one for work, need a couple more phones in, already have POE network so IP phones make it nice and easy

call recording would be handy for when someone writes an order down wrong etc.

caller id, then I can have a screen loading up saved callers details on screen when they call - if they owe anything, past orders etc. etc.

might as well have it be an answer machine too

only really need it to sit between the network and the landline, don't need any SIP features but they could be a bonus if I could have a dial 9 first for sip etc.

so I bought an old server... and an FXO card to plug it into the land line

running asterisknow, which installs CentOS and FreePBX

all seams really powerful/efficient... 5 min on google and there's people doing really cleaver things with it

but a good 12 hours on google and I still have no idea what I'm doing and can't get it to work

even bought an Asterisk for dummies book (just don;t tell anyone I bought a for dummies book)

the IP phones I bought are connecting to it, and I'm updating them via TFTP etc.

but so far that's all I can do

anyone any good with them ?  - I'll come back with specific questions when I'm back at work :-)

I find it easiest to subscribe to one service and pay about £8 a month to fill my boots  :ptu:

Each baby is unique, and develops at it's own rate. Some can seem really slow but later catch up very fast. One friend's son didn't get started talking until after he was three, then became a goddam motor mouth. Some toddlers sleep an incredible amount, others a lot less.

The more intelligent parents, and especially if they haven't had a previous child, tend to worry a heck of a lot when there isn't really a problem.

I didn't have a dummy either, not because I wasn't offered one, but because I didn't want it. I didn't go to nursery or 'day care.

To be honest I think there is an awful lot of pressure on parents that just wasn't there 50 years ago. This is one area where the 'nanny state' has gone gaga.

Cheers dude  :ptu:

Little Finley was 3 weeks premature but has piled on the weight and is well on track. We're only 10 weeks in and dealing with the early evening crying stage, seems like one thing after another that is a challenge for them, first it was wind and pooping - its really not much fun being a newborn! Woe betide you if you try and take boob away from him too... When he is happy and playful though, can't beat it Wub.

We've got a lot to look forward to ;D

Firstly I just wanted to say congrats to Nige for joining the dad club.
In the early days most of us were single/dating/without kids but I guess many of us are now parents?

I just wanted to share quickly how we finding things and stuff I noted and interested to hear other stories, maybe advise and so on.

Lachlan turned 1 last month.

Just some things with him, some challenges etc.

Positives:
- Saying a lot early, development tests he’s ahead of for his age
- Although lower end of good weight (Just because he is so active) he eats Heaps and well, loves his fruit
- Tall
- Bi-lingual

Less Positive:
- We are a non dummy family and sleeping and the self soothing is a hard one, he is still up 1-2 times a night. As he is going day care we thought
- Does not really sleep in the day, especially at Day Cay, he thinks he will miss too much.
- Not one of those sit and listen babies, ALWAYS on the move

Other things:
- Not walking yet, he can, when he is not thinking about it he will walk between things, its just a confidence thing at this point
- Although we said "Daddy" and "Mummy" along with "Dad" and "Mum" he has stuck with "Dadda" and "Mumma" on his own.
- Since about 6 months he dances, it is the funniest thing and has different moves for different songs as well. He likes the good stuff, 80's mainly. Jackson 5 he loves, Aha and lots of the songs I know we all like and not much modern chart.

Anyone think this is getting out of control?
I do not mind paying fair price for my streaming service. I love Netflix but Every media company and their grandma want to do their own streaming service.
We all likely have a handful of shows but its an ever increasing world that you have to pay 10+ different companies across multiple apps to watch shows you want. OR you go illegal.

And then the free service or the TV channel apps. Here in Australia you got 7, Channel 10, SBS.. UK will be like the BBC, ITV etc.
Our media units and TV's will and are getting just rammed full of these streaming services apps.

Now Disney are doing their own as well, It is just getting out of hand. Even on a billing stand point, having to pay $10 here, $10 there, $14.99 there.

Am I wrong, Surely they can work out a better way?

General Discussion / Re: Trump pulls out of Paris...

Since records began the US has been hit by at the most one category 4 hurricane in a year. This time it's been hit by Harvy and Irma, both category 4. Jose is still circling in the Atlantic and could in theory go hit New York area, or it might just cross the ocean and hit Iceland, Norway or the UK, it might even hit all 3.

If that happens feel free to post 'pinball wizard'

And there's now Hurricane Maria, already category 1 and expected to strengthen rapidly. It seems to be following the same path as Irma and could well hit the US as a third category 4.

Trump has his head up his ass, hopefully the Americans will vote Democrat in the elections this year. That would give them the option of impeaching him, if there's enough evidence.

Then he did surprise the Republicans, and everyone else, by agreeing with the Democrats for a 3 month extension to the US finances. The Republicans had wanted to stick it out for a longer time period.
