Another political failure on drugs
on: October 30, 2014, 04:03:39 AM
Both main parties have tried to appear tough on drugs, now it seems they were both wrong.

Quote from: BBC
There is "no obvious relationship" between tough laws and levels of drug use, a government report has suggested.

It compared the UK with countries like Portugal, where possession of small amounts of drugs no longer carries criminal sanctions.

Liberal Democrat Home Office minister Norman Baker said the findings should prompt the end of "mindless rhetoric" on drugs with a new focus on treatment.

So perhaps we can get legalize and save some money. Or even tax it?

they're going to have to tax cannabis sooner rather than later, to pay for the increasing number of mental illness related hospitalizations which they're trying to pin on drug use. the longer people live, the more hospital treatment they need. if they've been taking drugs and drinking since an early age, there is going to be more brain related illness. better build hospitals.

god forbid we ever cure cancer, cos then the NHS is royally fuc*ed

anyone else think government is just multiplayer sims, but you can't start all over again?

they should legalise a controlled cannabis where they can monitor the THC content.
Then sell at a muchly reduced price compared to the drug dealers (afterall it is a relatively cheap weed to produce mass scale).

Not only will it raise tax revenue, but it would massively reduce drug dealing imo.

Personally dont think the NHS should be there for any self inflicted illnesses, dont care if its drugs, booze or fags.

if you can figure how to prove whether or not cancer is because of genes or alchohol etc, you'll be a millionaire.

Cancer has a multitude of causes, including genetics and drugs. Not all drugs cause cancer and not all cancers are caused by drugs. Asbestos causes cancer, and many similar substances are suspected of doing the same but are not drugs. Natural radiation also can cause or promote cancer.

As for cannabis and mental health issues it may be people with or about to get mental health issues turn to cannabis because of their problems and not the other way around. There have been numerous instances of people confusing cause and effect in medicine.

I have been told that cannabis may alleviate my Fibromyalgia, and I've nothing against anyone trying it as a treatment. I got nasty side effects when I was in the same room with someone else smoking it, so that option isn't for me. Therefore it should go into the same category as tobacco, at least in my opinion. Canabis can also be eaten as a herbal medicine and surprisingly there are claims that cannabis could be used as a treatment for some cancers.

Note, I have no idea how efficacious cannabis may be as a medicine, there would need to be comprehensive trials. TBH I don't trust some of the sites offering the information either.

Woah you have fibro. My gf has it and it sucks balls.

Simply breathing causes cancer, free radicals and all that jazz.
