With their numbers increasing should the riders of quad bikes be legally required to wear helmets when riding on roads the same as motorcyclists and trikes?

Give them a choice, but make it the same as a Cycle, if you have an accident and you get head injury you cant do feck all about it unless your wearing an approved helmet

If people are stupid enough to ride them without then let them remove themselves from the gene pool !

Same for Motorbikes and any other activity where safety equipment is an enforced requirement.

Whats with the "MAKE it a choice" ...I mean, it already is a choice. Just because it isnt illegal to not wear one doesnt mean you cant/mustnt wear one. Its not like the people who die of head injuries from QBs through not wearing a helmet were forced not to wear one! Its a bit heartless I know, but the parents of people who have died complaining about the lack of mandatory laws seem to be trying to shift the blame from themselves for not making/strongly suggesting they wear a helmet.

Im with zpyder. If youre going to risk bowling around the countryside on one of these with no protection you get no sympathy from me when you cave your skull in.

Id rather see it made mandatory though, as this drives forward the quality of helmets since people have to buy them.

Personally I think it should be mandatory, only because if you are driving like a prick, and have an accident with a car, and you die because of not wearing a helmet, then the person in the car has to deal with that, not the person who didnt wear one.

Its a bit like those pricks on motorbikes wearing shorts, they deserve to lose their skin on their legs!

this tbh... will have an effect on other motorists

also if two people are riding on the quad then having a legal obligation to wear a helmet would protect say a child riding as a passenger

also people can be stupid when theyre young, some 18 year old should know better, but everyone can be an idiot when 18 - grieving parents would probably very much have liked legislation to have been put into place

tis odd - usually Im fairly libertarian but when stuff affects others then perhaps we do need legislation

Im fairly pro most drugs being legalised but anti some highly addictive ones such as heroin simply due to the affect on crime rates, devastation of families etc...

Ive seen plenty of older people being idiots, problem is the idiot doesnt always pay the price.

my brother toppled one off road & smacked his head against a tree.. I now call him cant get right.

His day to day memory is terrible, you keep having to remind him things. Quite often hell go shopping with his
bird, wonders off to get something he fancies, forgets he came with someone & pays & drives home.
He cant hold a job down, etc. because of it.

I dont know why people bother with them on the road, too wide to get through traffic and no comfort like a car, worst of both worlds.

IMO you have to be a grade A nutter to get on one on the road without a helmet, gloves and decent jacket and trousers (basically bike gear) since if you come off even at low speed its going to shred you badly
