Security officials in Mexico say three men have been killed by a mob for allegedly trying to kidnap a group of youths.

Local residents in Chalco, near Mexico City, beat the men, doused them with petrol and set them alight.

Police managed to save one of the three men from the mob, but he died later in hospital.

Excessive.

Vigilantism - noone wins.

Not saying I'm above out myself mind just it doesn't work as a justice system.

Ironic how these 'christians' rang church bells to alert others before burning the men to death...

The problem isn't the punishment. It's the lack of an investigation, judge and jury.

These men were alleged, not proven. yet they've been burned to death.

it's not like rumours spread about them and a mob went off to hunt them down.... they were (apparently) caught in the act

Yeah but again my point stands, where it's the investigation? The innocent until proven guilty?

Have you not seen CSI.

Taxi Driver parks up on a road, kid walks along and falls over hits the bonnet and passes out on the floor.

A bunch of blokes across the street turn around to see a kid slumped in the road not moving and the taxi driver getting back into his cab.

When asked "did you see the kid get run over?"

They answered "yeah, yeah we did!"

Taxi driver got beaten to death by the blokes because they thought he was going to drive off.

Taxi driver was actually getting back into his cab to reach for his radio and to call for help.

Granted that's on the tv but it happens in real life plenty enough times.

What actually happened: a perceived botched kidnapping, turned a mob into a triple homicide murder machine.

Harry Callahan: Well, when an adult male is chasing a female with intent to commit rape, I shoot the bastard. That's my policy.
The Mayor: Intent? How did you establish that?
Harry Callahan: When a naked man is chasing a woman through an alley with a butcher's knife and a hard-on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross!
[walks out of the room]
The Mayor: He's got a point.

That'd be an exception, which doesn't prove the rule.
