Yes, but Scanias are built for torque and have quite a few more litres

last time I looked out of curiosity on their site, iirc they have some 16 litre V8s!

Thats 2 litres per cylinder.. completely built for torque, not bhp & revs.

The dieselmax must be a good balance of bhp & torque because they cant rely on 18 or whatever gears to keep the engine in the powerband - it needs to rev higher happily.

Well, the good old masters of Diesel have done it again.

PSA are producing a 5.5l diesel with more torque (1300Nm), and more power (700bhp) than the Audi effort! And its going in a road car !!

No diesel is built to rev highly. That one in particular - 2 hours at full pelt. A tricked up lorry engine, that is built a lot heavier than a digger engine would sustain that kid of abuse longer.

Id say the speed was all high gearing - wonder if theyll do a VW and claim good mpg because they used an absurdly high top gear LOL

Well, Scania havent broken any world records for speed, so they dont get a say, even if they have diamond encrusted bores and run on 100% bull sperm.

Mark

Scania/Saab have broken loads of speed records over the years...

soopahfly

Shouldnt that read :
Scania/Saab/GM?

Mark

Not when the records were set (I think)

soopahfly

Was going to say!
Cant see GM being bothered to set records tbh
